Would you ever add effects before compressing track?

There's no reason not to use a compressor post-FX. It's all about how it sounds - as mentioned, most modulationFX can benefit greatly by putting the compressor last - even compress first, modulate and then use another compressor afterwards. Even reverbed channels can be compressed if you want that particular effect - reverbed drumloops can be hugely powerful-sounding depending on both the reverb and the comp settings.

Unless you have really mild tremelo, compression is not going to negate the effect. If the tremelo is a sine wave one, then somebody mentioned a limiter - not a good idea - that would affect the character of the tremelo alot more obviously. Unless you have an extremely soft knee limiter that kicks in way below the threshold...in which case you may as well stick with a compressor anyway.

I almost always compress after flanging, mostly after strong chorusing, regularly after overdrive (especially if it's a velocity sensitive one), any FX basically that has wildly changing levels.

I regularily compress post-effect too. It can help cohese the sound, tame unruly peaks or create a new effect in itself (I tend to compress most tracks at some point, actually). There are so many compressors with intelligent/soft/transparent transient handling - I'd just try them out until I found something that worked.
