This is probably a dumb question for most... but I'm using Cubase, and I have ManyStation as a VSTi for two different MIDI tracks, but when I change the sample on one, it changes the sample on the second MIDI track as well. How do I stop it from doing this?

Post

Nevermind - I guess you gave to load the VSTi twice and go from there.
My bad.

Actually - I must be doing something wrong here. What I've done is loaded the ManyStation VSTi into several VSTi slots - and that to me seems to be a waste. Is there another way to do this that I'm missing?

Bump...

Hmm... I just load the same VSTi twice... Dunno if there's a different way to do it, maybe. :)

I know there's a way to assign each layer to a different MIDI channel, but I don't know if it's possible with presets. Maybe Paul can help over at the Manystation forum?

Hi
In the Config Screen you can assign layers to Channels.
So if for example you want to sequence 6 different UBK sets to make a convincing Bass track you can do it one interface using different channels.
But if you want to use a preset that blends the layers and uses multiple layers for 1 sound, Then you need to fire up a new instance in a new Slot. Cubase still limits it to 8... Have they not got past that yet :-)
I use Sonar and Orion and Other hosts and i still do not understand why Cubase limits you.

Anyways ... there are ways to make your own presets per layer / channel Joel if you wish to use it that way. Just use the Config menu and Load a soundset in each osc and assign your midi tracks to the individual channels.

Also I moved this down to the ManyTone Forum :-)

Thanks! I'll try it out.

I must be an idiot. I really can't figure this one out. I've checked the ManyStation Configuration screen but can't seem to figure out what I'm supposed to do.

Hi jacksmash
In the config box of the last version you can set the channels per layer. The config shows this as the 4 layers and the 2 WaveSequence layers. Set layer one to channel 1 and layer 2 to a different channel. Then it is up to you and your host to switch between the channels and the sounds.
So then in your host program you play and sequence the different channels.
What host are you using? Not that it matters, but if it is one that i use then perhaps i can help a bit.

Hey Paul - I'm using Cubase.

Hi jacksmash
I don't use cubase myself, but please explain where you are stuck. Have you ever used a multitimbral synth in cubase before? The manual should tell you how to route your midi track to the channel of ManyStation you want to control. (That you set up in the config)
Usually it is a menu selection.

You need to load a soundset into each layer of ManyStation that you assign a channel to. Turn the layers on etc etc.

But perhaps tell me what your trouble is so i know where you are getting stuck.

Perhaps a Cubase Guru can explain exact steps for you?
But from all the above info you should be able to set it up.

Routing midi channels is pretty straight forward, routing channel outputs is a little bit strange.
If I have this correct you have a master out and the two fx busses as three stereo outputs. I seem to be able to assign voices to outputs 2&3 by the fx send knobs but the master is always a mix?

It would be nice if you could set the fx sends pre-fader to be be able to route three voices to the three separate outputs without the mix. Or even better if you could assign each mixer and fx channel to one of the three outputs in the multi-version?

Hopefully I've missed something? If not it just seems a lot easier to load multiple manystations.
