Whats all this about Headquest? Starting a thread that ends up with almost 300 responses and close to 10,000 hits!
Reading through this thread you really do appear to have become somewhat of an expert regarding Ableton Live usage.
So the big question.
Is Live 5 THE application for you now? Live 5 appears to have addressed all your needs and more.
What happens to Reason and Adobe Audition, you have both if I am not mistaken.
Just interested in your current workflow.
Also you spoke of your students using Tracktion some time ago, will you migrate them to Live 5?

Yes, it really is now. More important than the functionality of v5 (great though that isIs Live 5 THE application for you now?
Yes, and they continue to play a role still:Live 5 appears to have addressed all your needs and more. What happens to Reason and Adobe Audition, you have both if I am not mistaken.
Audition is a fantastic tool box for all things audio. Live 5 still lacks detailed sample editing of the sort that Audition offers. I also chose Audition as a mastering environment. The effects are really great, and I like the fact that it provides a one-stop-shop for all this.
Reason I basically use as an instrument within Live, and have done for some time. I very occasionally use it standalone, but not often, and have not even upgraded to version 3 yet.
I also have Sibelius, which fills the final hole by giving me top-notch notation.
Sadly there were problems upgrading to T2 so far as teaching goes - it was promised in the last tax year but didnt materialise, which caused me a certain amount of professional embarassment. I did upgrade my personal copy online, though. Also you spoke of your students using Tracktion some time ago, will you migrate them to Live 5?
How about you, christianmusicmaker - are you still using Tracktion/Sonar/Live/etc?

Tracktion for collaboration with other musicians.headquest wrote:

Sonar/P5v2 for my own stuff. It's taken ages to get stuff finished because of a full time job.I have very little time on weekends. Starting to finish projects now.
Live3 mainly for realtime audio warping, and time stretching, this is the one area that for me where P5v.2 cannot compete with live IMHO. Now that good old PDC and freeze have arrived I may look at it again. Rewire means I can always add it to Sonar4 or even P5v.2 (some combination) but it duplicates alot of Project5v.2's features.
My son (8yrs old)) uses an old version of Live (version 2 I think) so I may upgrade it to Live5 for him anyway.
Sonar is the main package for me now as I dabble in surround work and video as well. But P5v.2 is a lovely place to work in. I use it for initial ideas.
I am keeping an eye on Adobe as the next version of their video collection should be out soon with a likely update of Adobe audition which I think may include VSTi support with full midi editing.Just guessing but I think it is likely.
Not a cheap collection around $3,000 but I will likely need Adobe Premiere, after effects and so forth which if bought individually could cost close to $3k anyway. I am working on a small movie project but it will very likely progress to other video projects from there.

They now appear in the browser when you click on the top right Icon.Beardedone wrote:Why don't the Live devices show their presets?

They do, If you click on the little grey circle icon on the top richt of the effect, it'll turn orange, and open the main browser (if it's not already open) where it automatically finds all the fx presets. They're now in the browser.Beardedone wrote:Why don't the Live devices show their presets?
it's quite nice once you're used to it.

We mean thebrowser window on the left hand side of the screen...Beardedone wrote: I got this far but there really are no presets shown in the browser.
Which devices have you tried?
If there are really no presets showing there for some/any of the devices, post your full details (system, OS, etc) on the beta forum here:

I have not experienced this problem/cannot confirm.
