After 3 years of FL production I finally got a midi keyboard hooked up but I can't seem to get it to work in FL? I have NI Absynth and when running on it's own the midi keyboard works fine, so I know the keyboard is working. Any of you experts got 5 mins to help me get it working in FL's?

Thanks guys!!!

First thing, have you got 'enable midi remote control' ticked on the 'options' menu, and your soundcards midi input set as the 'remote control input' on the 'midi settings' page on the options menu?

You need to setup FLStudio to accept MIDI. Okay, I'll walk you through this.

Go to "options."
Go to "MIDI settings."

Under MIDI Settings:
-Under Master Sync Output choose your MIDI interface.
-Do the same for Remote Control Input.
-Under Output Port Mapping highlight your MIDI interface and right beneath it will be "Port Number: ---". Click on the --- and scroll up to choose a port number for that particular MIDI interface.

Also, make sure "enable MIDI remote control" and "enable MIDI output" are checked under the Options menu.

Then, once that's all done, insert a MIDI channel and select the port number that corresponds to the port number of your MIDI interface, and just hit "record" and jam away. :)

hey there - yes these are set correctly but still no recognition at all in FL!

You can't record MIDI data or can you send MIDI and just can't record the audio or get it to play back?

Post

Ok - I believe I have this all set up correctly but still no joy! I'm using an Audigy soundcard as my interface and I'm going stright into the front using the midi ports. One thing I have noticed is that the PC Keyboard works as a midi device when switched on - could there be a conflict?

Post

I can't seem to send midi data - the midi light on the display never flashes so I think there is no imput!

Post

Nah. If your keyboard acts as a MIDI controller you have "Typing Keyboard to Piano" checked under Options. Are you SURE you have everything setup right in FLStudio? If you do, I hate to say this, but I would imagine there's a problem with your interface.

Post

Do you have any other software to test your keyboard on, such as Cakewalk or ANY other sequencer to make sure it's FLStudio and not your interface or computer?

Post

yes - the midi keyboard works when I set up NI Absynth without FL so I think the interface is working ok. I'm pretty sure it's something to do with my settings in FL. just not sure what else to try! is there any way to double check the port number of my interface?

sorry I came in late...that sounds like under options>midi settings you don't have the remote in assigned to the midi input you thought...just mentioning it for future reference, I'm glad you got it going...;)
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
