I'm looking for a book that explains pop and/or jazz music theory, and in particular, composing harmonies and melodies. I already have a good background in the theory, but I have some holes in my knowledge. I'd like to learn the pop and jazz musical styles. Any recommendations on a good book to learn (or to start learning) from?

Oh, one last thing. I'm not interested in the Idiot's guides or the Dummies guides on music theory, because I own them.

Thanks. :D

not a book, but better comes in three flavors I have gold 2.0 (70 bux or so) and music theory 3.0 ('bout 20 bux)...the theory 3.0 is so worth the money, where the other two have less actual theory and more geared towards guitar the theory one is just theory and uses midi for examples which is a bonus feature...I post this often because it's something I think everyone can use...and face it a book will run yah 20 bux and the midi examples are great..:D

BTW the gold 2.0 is more then worth the money but is really for all stringed instruments...;)

I had heard about that. In fact, that's where I learned about the Japanese sen scale. :D

Does that one teach you about pop music form and rhythms?

It has a songwriting chapter, probably the best thing to do is to download the demo and check it out...it's a three use demo and each time the discount gets smaller (but not that big a deal)...;)

Thank yas. I'll be checking it out and probably buying it. I liked what I read on the site and the thing looks packed with information.
