Thanks for the kind thoughts. Unfortunately there's no way out, just gotta deal with it. Shame that I'm a wimp par excellence, not at all good at dealing with such things.
I won't use commercial painkillers: oxycontin, whatevercodone, and the like -- I burn the 'scrip whenever the doctor insists on giving me one. If they don't work they're a waste of money, if they do work I wouldn't want to stop taking them. That way lies inevitable addiction. The more organic sort would be nice, but that's out of the question for various reasons. Hypnosis and autosuggestion don't work on me (except my own hiccough cure, which involves an exercise in imagination and works for me nearly every time). Aromatherapy is just some smells, makes me sneeze.
Traditionally, gnawing the affected limb(s) off is my kind's preferred method of pain control. For that to work there's got to be a place where the hurt ends. Today that ain't happening.
Such is life. I'll try to avoid getting bitey, and will avoid trolls for the next few days; the stench of sprayed, then burnt meat would shut down KVR and make every domain within two letters of it run for cover.
Sorry for the rant, sometimes ya just gotta moan a bit even if it doesn't do any good. :-D

Sorry it's a bad day for you Meffy. It sounds like an adaptation of the hiccough cure may be the way to go. Also ranting and moaning from time to time is good -you've got a captive audience here.

Thanks, Patrick. Appreciated. :-)
The Cure (pat. pend.) is just a psychological trick to help "locate" and quiet the ganglion -- solar plexus, I think -- that stutters, causing hiccoughs. People aren't trained to operate their bodies, really, and in most cases that's beyond conscious control. This one trick happens to work for me about 90% of the time, and I've taught it to my mate; it works for her too but not as often.
It's powerless against deep damage, arthritis, and all the other stuff that's got me in a wretched self-pitying mood today. YUK. Nothing's worth than a self-pitier! *wrenches self out of it*
"Maintain," advised Hunter S. Thompson, and maintain I shall. (No, I don't ordinarily take Thompson's advice. But that particular bit is a good'un.)

S'okay, the arthritis is the one part I can control somewhat. Good old ASA does the trick for me most of the time. :-) (My diet is beyond awful, no doubt of that. I'm a child of the USA's 1950s meat-and-starch culture... but I love it!)
