Thanks. Oh by the way, I added in the orchestra and choir player noises per your request guys. ;)

Cool :D

I hope the next wave of demo's comes soon - I want to decide to order and subsequently order as soon as possible, and I'm really looking forward to hearing how the sounds in the library sound :)

Good demos take time and also the more you do them the better you get. So, even for fun I plan to do a lot of them. But, fun=time! ;) I am doing riff demos though which are just short clips of each sound. Let me know if there is one in particular you are curious about (taking requests... just kidding). There's even more sounds than are in that posted list though. It will be updated soon (with the demo links in fact).

I am collecting a few people who are really great at orchestral demos though so if there are any demos/demoist that you like feel free to email which/who/where they are. We're going to hopefully have a good one from our pal Larry Ortega though who has made some of the ST2 demos with me. But, some classical guys joining us would be nice. I am on the hunt. ;)

I saw the response at the NS forum today. I am suprised at the reaction after there was much enthusiasm there before the latest demos. I am no tin ear when it comes to orchestral music coming from a classically trained musical family and hearing orchestral music in all it's forms since I was born.

I found the Dvorak demo to be really very very good, much better than I would have expected. I also don't think they are aware of your chops either. I can't play as well and you might be surprised to know most of them at NS can't either!

There is a degree of snobbery at work over there because the MV is percieved as 'old' and that makes it automatically obsolete to their way of thinking.

Thats like saying a stradivarius is obsolete because it was made a couple hundred years ago.

I am more and more feeling that this library is just what I have really been wanting all along. I had so much fun with my Edirol HQO when it came out even though I had these fine Giga libraries. Sure it didn't sound as good but I got alot more composing done then. The QLSO is great but it it's too much like building legos to me.

I feel that what we have here is the best of that taken waaayyy beyond the HQO in terms of quality and choices.

I believe these qualities will quickly become apparent to musicians after they begin using it.

I know you'll sell a bunch of 'em squids! :D

What I really want to hear are "fast passage" riffs :). Just some string ensemble playing a lively passage - 16th notes at 140-150bpm should be "lively" enough. Preferably with quarter, half, and whole notes thrown into the mix, to show that not only can they attack fast, they can sustain. The same thing with brass instead of strings would also be cool.

If anything like that is present among the riffs, I'll be happy :) not that I'm giving suggestions or anything, I'd assume that something similar was already planned, but that's where I think a good library really shines - I can already get great orchestral texture out of something like ST2, it's in shaping the performance and articulation that a dedicated orchestral library makes itself distinct.

Well.. really, what I and several other posters were saying was that MV is great, Philharmonik is even better, and that the demos don't seem to be reflecting that (yet), which is not an attack at all. I am very much looking forward to Philharmonik being the owner of several SR products already!

I would have to agree with zircon here - with the exception of Badinerie and the "Full Orchestra" demo I mentioned earlier, so far the demo's aren't really "convincing" as to the quality of the library.

But one or two great demo's are enough to spark interest, of course :D because you can hear that the material IS there, at that point, so it keeps you alert for subsequent demo's.

Great samples will stand the test of time...I don't care what others are saying, new samples doesn't = great sounding samples. It takes time and care to record samples, and Miroslav took his time and care to record his samples...Philharmonik will be great! :)

The demo I really liked was actually the one that was improvised and played live.

OK - it didn't sound like a real orchestra - but it sounded effing fine for something played live and if I were in the audience hearing that I'd still be impressed. Especially as it's coming from someone playing the whole thing live.

Bloody awesome!

Of course, I'm not the keyboardist Squids is so I probably have no chance in reproducing it - but still.....WOW!

That was another side to Philharmonik that I was seeing that probably can't be reproduced by any of those other libraries.

These have been interesting threads (even if I have to put up with people ripping my work apart! haha, just kidding. That comes with the territory I know... as does any of YOUR music when you release an album or whatever we do as musician/artists).

I think I understand where everyone is coming from on these issues and I think it is entirely possible that many points of view can be right at the same time. I especially like that people are wise enough to know that even if they don't particularly like a demo that they can still make use of the library themselves to their own tastes. For instance, I can do a whole Progrock demo of Sonik Synth 2 and a young dude who only likes Trance music could think the demo sucks but LOVE the product itself immensely.

When it comes to using Philharmonik, for myself I probably would not be the type to spend loads of time reconstructing classical music although it might be fun and a challenge. I think some people will though and want to hear it do that to the highest degree of realism down to every nuance... well at least compared to other orchestral libraries because compared to a real orchestra I think nothing is going to stand up entirely... nothing like the REAL THING! And if it was affordable and convenient to always have a real orchestra available to you I would use that every time I could!

But, you guys are seeing some things that I've seen about what an orchestral product COULD be if you abandon some of the expectations the competitive market has suggested. For instance, the market has somewhat suggested that a great orchestral library must be MASSIVE (ie. hundred of gigs). Not only is this not necessarily true but that has its own inconveniences and extra added expense and taxation of your computer. Can be worth it for some people (I happen to be one of those people that loves samples so much I'll buy as many hard drives as I need! Although I am also the type to like to take my orchestral library with me on my laptop HD. No Giga and VSL there I am afraid!).

Philharmonik is different in price point and it fills a special area that is condusive to being creative in perhaps different ways than other products. It is VERY "musicians first" (IK's motto) and is ong of the fastest tools for getting your ideas out. Take the whole live combi thing for example. Sure, maybe those demos don't sound EXACTLY like a real orchestra. But, they are quick and instant to play (and a lot easier to play than you may think) so you can hear what an orchestra fleshed out might sound like. That can give you ideas. I don't know about you but I LOVE to work this way. That's why I like the IMap drum layout too because you can hear the beats playing it live off of each other instead of just laying in the hihat part and then the kick and snare overdubbing. I mean, even if you end up doing it that way for the final track (or even if you end up recording a real drummer for the final track) having more immediate responsive parts to mock up your idea is HIGHLY useful. Know what I mean?
