You can still get the download for the demo at hitsquad, try the UK server.

It has a lot of pop-up windows, so it's hard to capture it in a screenshot.

Trapaki wrote:Jo please - a new host ! Muzys is still outstanding software, all what it needs is an audio streaming and OS X port... ok even only OS X port... I can't run OS 9 anymore and I miss Muzys so much... the best sequencer ever !
Muzys itself is no more (see http://www.mutools.com ). The question is whether there will come a reincarnation.

IF a successor will come, then it will surely have harddisk streaming and it will be OSX compatible (OS9 won't be supported anymore). And Windows compatible too of course.

I've got some useful (and unique I think) ideas for a new sequencer! :-D

HI

Thanks Jens!

I had a quick look at Muzys (I can't resist twiddling with a new host!) - it does look a bit retro - reminds me of the old Cubase Vst!

I couldn't get to play with the synth - it doesn't matter, I was curious - all that tells me is there is a way of setting things up/working that like many other host's requires a bit of time.

Anyway I am pretty content with what I have but I will always have a look at anything new that comes around - just like the next guy I am looking for the 'holy grail' - and yes: I know it donesn't exist!

Hey, what did he do? :x

Yeah the integration of MuZynth with Muzys was killer.
So what you'd end up getting isn't MuZynth in a VSTi - because you won't be able to do that. You'd end up with something that extends on the idea of MuZynth as a synth/sampler, but hopefully with MUSICIANS in mind rather than purely Sound design enthusiasts.

- there's no such host that's ever gonna be "the next big thing".
- think also about Podium/Aero Studio : damn hard and long time programming work :(
- are you making a living out of this new host?
- is programming still fun?
You're so right, these are exactly the questions i must solve.

No doubt that from the creative side, making another host can be fun & interesting.

But it indeed must be realistic on the money-side too. Working hard at a low rate is in the end frustrating anyway. And killing the project.

HI

I prefer to call it "The house of pain" - I am not prepared to discuss it further though, it's just too distresing :-o .

Or, it could force someone into a development partnership that might also end up killing the project.

Jo, I get the sense you are leaning more towards synth/plug-in development. If this is the case, would it be feasible to develop a series of Muzys-like modular plug-ins? The first could be a Muzynth-like module. The second a MIDI sequencing-like plug (not being a programmer, I have to ask: could such a thing be done?). That way people who want only the Muzynth could get their hands on it first, and this would give you a revenue stream to help support your further development initiatives. Later on, the MIDI sequencer plug could then be used within other hosts like Plogue Bidule. Eventually, you could offer a fully integrated host/synth.

I know I keep trying to push you towards full host development, but what do you expect from a real fan!

Cheers, Lewis

if it's any help, from my perspective, i still fire up muzys for its midi/note editing tools. the way you can set user definable grids (ie groove templates) is fantastic and can't be done in my other hosts. that together with all the other note editing/ selection tools makes it, imho, one of the best piano roll editors. so if there was some way for you to exploit that code/concept, maybe a vst midi editor/workbench with midi drag and drop, to add your piano roll editing functionality to other sequencers would be a way to go, if the complete sequencer market is too crowded at the moment- just a thought

i have to say ... theres a lot in the concept of a modular host built from distinct VST plugins that appeals ...

... not least in the user-customisable nature of such a project (and commercially the 'buy only those modules you need' approach might attract a lot of customers sick of bloatware)

Also, I remember an app from the BeOS days called Qua, which had some very
intersting features. 8)
Can you specify which aspects you like so much in these applications?

Whatever you do, keep that ZYNTH alive :o

I know I'm a bit of a fanboy but for me it was the synth to end all synth purchases back in 2003.

So whether you're coding another host or revive the Muyzs thing or go into plug coding, continue with the Muzynth!!

Marco :)
Marco, please note that Muzynth = part of Muzys, and then read the info on http://www.mutools.com

I'm happy to see that you and others liked the special vibe of Muzys and Muzynth.

When new tools come out, they'll certainly reincarnate certain ideas! But all in a brand-new jacket :)
