I'm working with a company that is looking for a GM Module to include with a software program (via either license or purchase.)
Just judging from the information on Sonic Reality's website, it seems Omni Synth works like a standard VSTi, meaning you load each channel by hand.
Reason being is what we're really looking for is a 'bank' load and then instruments are chosen in the standard GM fashion by sending program changes (ie: 71 for flute for instance.)
Does Omni Synth just load like a regular standard VST sample libary or will it respond via program chagnes. The advantage to program changes is that people accustomed to working with midi don't have to learn anything and the process would be transparent to them. Whereas, if it works like a normal sample library then they'd have to load up instruments based on each and every track.
I hope I'm making sense. The closest I've seen is Edirol HyperCanvas or Virtual Sound Canvas and neither are what we really want.

You are probably better off going over to the Sonik Reality/Sampletank forum where Squids hangs. He can give you a difinitve answer since he's the guy in charge of SR and esoundz.
I do know this much however. Omnisynth is just a collection of sounds not a VSTi. It loads through Sampletank. Sampletank 2 is reported to respond to program changes but I have never had cause to use it like that so I don't know how well it does it.

It responds to program changes when you load up the program change bank that comes with it. I'll explain more in a bit but I have to run. The only thing that doesn't automatically load are the drum kits. But, they are of course mapped to GM and you just load them on channel 10 and you're good to go.

Omnisynth was my 1st SR product and I really loved it and still do. Great sounds in the GM range, like the acoustic guitar - hmmmmmm.

hi dan, but i believe that omnisynth comes with a version of sampletank 2(LE) so therefore it kind of *is* a vsti right?dgkenney wrote:I do know this much however.
