I believe I'm working on a new form of hip-hop (hyper-hop?) but I'm a perfectionist so the album won't be done till the end of this year. I really want to reveal it to people but its just not ready. I don't speak on bullshit. I speak on metaphysics, spirituality, psychadelic existence, Death, Life, and the current climax of evolution we are living through. The beats are highly complex with polyrhythms and melody/harmony galore while still having that head bobbing element that most hip-hop has. Making and sharing this music is the primary reason for my existence.....and if I'm doing stuff this "cutting edge" other people are. I f**king HATE most hip-hop, but having grown up in South Central Los Angeles, its been the most influencial form of music in my life and I've been forced to claw and scratch for inspiring Hip-Hop for years. Heres what i got so far. (remember I'm a perfectionist so the list ain't that long.)
Kool Keith (perpetual genius)
M.F. Doom (unparalleled rhyme smith)
Anti-Pop Consortium (new paradigm shit)
Airborn Audio (more new paradigm shit)
Immortal Technique (total social-political badass, with a bit of the metaphysical)
Busdriver (uncontained, comical, sarcastic, lightning fast genius)
If anyone out there knows of other artists of this caliber, PLEASE let me know!

I am going too get laughed down for this but take a listen to the Faithless track's "Bring My Family Back" or "Mass Destruction".
Superb lyric construction.
Intelligent writing also.
Delivered with a very unique style and poetic poise.
Laugh all you wan't but those two tracks alone piss over anything Eminem has done.
Ditto DelaSoul's - 3 Feet High and Rising
Ditto early SugarHillGang / GrandMasterFlash / ErikB and Rakim and Afrika Bambataa circa mid to late 80's when he was doinmg shit with PIL etc etc.
Same for the likes of Roots Manouvre.
Massive Attack have always had a really unique delivery.
Ditto Tricky with everything up to and including "Nearly God".
Jurassic 5 are quite good as are Outkast.
Most of the stuff these days is written for the "GUG" whiteboy market.
A "GUG" is a whitekid who walks , talks . acts and is so delusional he thinks he is a black guy.
Mainstream HipHop is full of these wannabe tosser fanboys all jacking off too half naked and ripped pic's of 50 Cent.
They're so fuggin' hardcore there mama's still payin' the rent .
Loved PE's "Fear of a Black Planet" - still listen too it (sonic terrorists of the 1st degree some awesome sampling work on their early releases).
Really most mainstream hip hop has sucked since the mid too late 90's with a handful of exceptions.
Those exceptions have been uniformly excellent.
Most of it just sounds like the soundtrack to some skunk fukked braincell deprived white bread that wants to pretend it's all multigrain.
These deadshit's all keepin it real YO
.
What a crock.
And as for these looser gangsta rappers.
If ghetto life was so great why the f**k did they all wanna get rich , sling the bling bling around and get the f**k out of there so fast ?
Yet they glorify a lifestyle that is perpetuating negative stereotypes for their own community.
I dunno mate.
I just dig hip hop marginally more than I do country and that's saying something.

Hypocrisy Is the Greatest Luxury

Saw them live in Sydney many years back...
Spearhead definately deserve a mention also.
And Australia's 1200 Techniques aren't half bad either

Cause I'm not actively buying hip-hop records, I've only enjoyed these mainstream acts:
Herbalizer (what's the name of that lady - I love her flow)
Roots (they are INCREDIBLE live!)
De la Soul
Jurassic 5
MC Solaar (French music can be cool as well
)
Paris (ok a couple of beers help with him... bit over the top sometimes, but solid production)
Today there are some awesome Finnish groups like Ceebrolistics, Memmy posse and them crazy wankers from Olari that develop our domestic language in the context of hip hop. And Don Johnson Big Band!
I liked stuff like NWA, PE and even Busta Rhymes back in the teen days, but guns & blingbling ho ho shit is not doing it for me anymore, apart from some George-bashing
Anyway, my point was the classic line - there is great music in every genre, prejudices suck.

I totally agree, In every genre that I've heard, I've heard something that moved me. If it's got emotion, you can't deny it, whether they are speaking a different language or wearing a cowboy hat.pakana wrote:

nah, i'd just lump public enemy as "one of the more important hiphop-artists" - not something that represents hiphop wholly. much like hearing and not liking peter tosh doesn't mean you wouldn't like reggae or hating pixies doesn't mean you couldn't like other indie rock. hell, i didn't get pixies at all for a long while and thought it was overrated crap but i still was very much into some other artists classified as "indie rock".BONES wrote:So you'd lump Public Enemy in with all the current krap, would you? usually in these threads they are quoted as a shining example of everythign that hip-hop should be. I think the're krap.zion15 wrote:BONES, do remember that you haven't heard all hiphop in the world - probably not even a small fraction of it considering your comments.
the fact is, despite their strong impact in the "scene" and legendary status, PE aren't among my fave hiphop artists. i do have respect for them but i'm not into their music as much as some other people here. look, i'm not trying to start a flame war in here, just say that hating PE and n other hiphop artists doesn't mean there wouldn't be hiphop that you might actually like.
i'd advise you to check "cold vein" by cannibal ox and "fantastic damage" by el-p for example, if you're into darker stuff you might like them.
never stop loving music.

Busdriver: "Temporary Forever", "Cosmic Cleavage", "Fear of a Black Tangent"
All EXCELLENT albums. If you want funny, intelligent, lightning fast lyrics over VERY creative music, you OWE it to yourself to check out this artist and these albums. If you like inventive outside-the-box hip-hop, look no further.

i find it odd that nobody's mentioned j-live yet - one of the most thoughtful and clever lyricists too. for example, check the song "them that's not" for some jawdropping rhyming.
never stop loving music.
