so folks,
i found about this neat history video about the amen break in the forum:
http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic ... highlight=
you can watch the video here:
http://www.nkhstudio.com/# "Can I Get an Amen"
I thought it'd be fun to have a competition here to see who can come the closest to recreating the famous Amen Break using the samples in Sonik Synth 2 or Sampletank2,
or any of the capsules such as Studio Drums etc.
here is the stipulation: you must layer your beat with some sort of instrument sound(like bass, keys, string, pad etc) so that people cant just snag your drum tones as this wouldnt be fair to sonic reality and IK.
if you have no where to post it, PM me and i'll help you out.
good luck and may the force be with you.
*Disclaimer: "Squids" has the right to chirp in at any time and decide whether or not this competition is allowed. He is also allowed to compete if he feels it's necessary*

Sure. Go ahead. I don't have time to figure out what you are even really talking about but I look forward to the results! Amen!

yeah maybe not overly clear... but it's just a simple challenge to hear how creative people are at tweaking their drum sounds. with the right compression, eq, layering, pitch shifting, etc. one could come close to engineering that sound, but they will have to be good. this will probably be something even more possible in studiophonik but i'm throwing it out there as a fun exercise to try something fun here.
cant think of a good prize so it's basically just a challenge and not a competition. wish i had epointz to give out

well in a nutshell he's talking about the famous "amen brother" breakbeat thats been used in hundreds of songs. The video hes referring to is a history of that breakbeat.Squids wrote:Sure. Go ahead. Squids, if youve heard drum n bass music youve heard the amen break.
Not bad meaning bad but bad meaning good

ha well this is a good thing because it shows you how far away squids stays from sampling drums from records and selling them as his own. it is near the top of reasons why i like using their stuff. aside from it being great, it's clean and legitsoulkraka wrote:Squids, if youve heard drum n bass music youve heard the amen break.

latest little snippet with any Amen in it is probably this thing: http://www.smartbeats.com/music/haiku_- ... ontest.mp3
there's also this thing: http://www.smartbeats.com/music/haiku_-_baroque.mp3 which needs a lot of work, but might work out pretty cool someday

Oh yeah, I almost forgot this one, which is one I'm real proud of. It's a collab beteween me and a good musician buddy making tracks under the name Green Kaidou: http://www.smartbeats.com/music/green_k ... _v._68.mp3 which uses it pretty blatantly.

these are really good smart. are you using sampletank2, or sonik synth2 what do you own from SR?
Green Kaidou is really cool, i like all the choppy edits in there. wish i could do those.
something to look into with kimi contest- try throwing a sidechain compressor on the voiceover with the ducking effect so it lowers the music everytime she speaks. just a thought
