remind me not to open any threads in kvr containing discussion about any one genre anymore.

Buck 65 has never been your typical rapper though.
P.S. It's a cover of a Woody Guthrie song too.

the question was "WHY DON'T YOU LIKE RAP/HIPHOP?"
it was a question, wasnt it?
i dont like rap cause it doesn't have bunny wabbits in it... it's better to lie to be dishonest?
if rap is so special when will it show us what it can do instead of pushin the drivel it does? for almost every other genre i can find outfits with the musical qualities that give chills down my spine. Blues, Rock, Jazz, Dance, Classical, Folk, Kwaito, you name it all have some musical integrity. i'm still keepin my ears open for some rap outfit that will do this but it's been 10years, even longer.

oh, so you have to search the lost catacombs of the ancient secret bands land to find some good hip hop, it's not available in your local store...damn! that was pretty ignorant of me.pakana wrote:Well it does seem to bring out the ignorance in people, doesn't it?if rap is so special when will it show us what it can do instead
no really, i'm sure 'Busdriver' can TALK very rythmically, very fast and he can talk about funny, interesting shit but i would REALLY like to know about a hip hop outfit that can make MUSIC that is really good and that does not include knowing how to work a sampler. until then i will have to listen to the current 'rap' hit over here... lonely, i'm so lonely... bwahahahahaha!!!!!

WTF!?! All our music has classic rock/pop structure - verse/chorus/verse/chorus/break/chorus/chorus or some slight variation on the theme. The vocal delivery matches the mood/energy of the music. What's not to get?TeeLangSun wrote:So Bones, you don't like Rap. It's totally understandable. I totally understand why people don't like rap. They have no way of relating to it. Same reason I don't like heavy metal or the kind of screaming and yelling music that you do. And I don't mean that to be offensive, but that's what it sounds like. A lot of screaming while somebody else happens to be playing some instrument. I'm certain that it makes total sense to you and your fans, but makes no sense to outsiders.
Maybe because the guy who started the thread asked for our opinions. Besides, you don't need to have heard every artist in a genre in order to be able to pass an opinion on it. I can tell you with absolute certainty that I f**king despise country and western even though, with luck, I have heard very little of what's available. But what I don't understand is why most of the people in this thread, including you, feel that you're qualified to judge rap music.
Why would you only give your opinion if it was positive? If I asked for people's opinions I would certanly hope to get both positive and negative ones. In fact you generally get greater insight from criticism than from praise. I would have thought that you, of all people, would understand that. The most I can say about the music you do is, I don't like it, but if your fans think that you're the greatest band in the world, then I have no reason to dispute it. Who am I to say it is or isn't?
Why don't we? If your mum don't like Elvis, she must be in her 90's for it to be a generational thing. I still like the same kind of music I always did, whether its new or old. People lose touch with popular culture because they move on in their lives. Whilst that generally occurs with age, its still a rather large generalisation.vurt wrote:as we get older we dont understand that which follows...
I dunno about that. I think if it was any good it probably wouldn't qualify. For example - the sublime Pop Will Eat Itself or, further back, the inimitable John Cooper Clarke.pakana wrote:Anyway, my point was the classic line - there is great music in every genre, prejudices suck.
I listened to all the previews of "Cold Vein" on amazon.com and its pretty damned boring, even just 20 seconds worth of each track.zion15 wrote:i'd advise you to check "cold vein" by cannibal ox and "fantastic damage" by el-p for example, if you're into darker stuff you might like them.

Insanecycle, Roots is hardly underground. Or any of the names I listed earlier.
BTW it is really not possible to jugde a globally spread genre by hit songs you hear on radio or MTV.

ok seriously there really are some good rap artists out there somewhere, it's just logical. you have to dig deep to find them, then again you have to dig deep to find anything good these days. i just like more music and less lyrics so i guess thats why i dont like rap and opera and i dont think i ever will.
i was just venting at the stuff that gets shown on tv and played on the radio, the typical stuff.

I don't like rap, too. I think it's just some funny talking along with some rhythm and funny samples, but, I like a few Cypress Hill songs like "Take a hit from the bong" for example...
. It's just plain funny, but no musical value.
Cheers!

I know what you mean, I love hip-hop but I can't get into Cannibal Ox or El-P for some reason.BONES wrote:I listened to all the previews of "Cold Vein" on amazon.com and its pretty damned boring, even just 20 seconds worth of each track.
As far as dark hip-hop goes, I prefer things like Alias - Angel of Solitude.

french hiphop
, freaky, that must be wierd, french is so smooth compared to english, now that's interesting
. well maybe if Frank Zappa was still alive and he did a collab with a rapper i would find that interesting (but only if Zappa wrote the lyrics, heh), he was good at rhythms & phrasing. IMO rap is more about the content of the words and driving a statement, i'd like to hear some really intense, thought provoking, philosophical, spiritual, emotional hip/hop with really intense, funky, off time, rythmic beats...
any suggestions?

MC Solaar - Prose Combat is a great album, bit dated now but I still listen to it from time to time.insaneacyde wrote:french hiphop, freaky, that must be wierd, french is so smooth compared to english, now that's interesting
