What pakana said about french rap, I agree. I don't understand french either, but I find it very listenable. I think french is well suited for rap.
Raping is, IMHO, more a rhytmic element, than a substitute for singing. That said, it doesn't mean it has no emotions... sometimes, tho, you have to know more songs of the same rapper to get the emotional message.

Buck 65 has never been your typical rapper though.

i've only got one buck 65 cd (the newer 'best of') but stylistically, i wouldnt really consider buck to rap. (even if he does dig scratching.) he may be using related delivery techniques, but the outcome is kind of different.

imho, its sort of like...just because a bassist is using a slap technique, doesnt mean he's playing funk.

buck is cool though.
i've got to pick up more of his stuff. i only found out about him a few months ago.

Unfortunate for most rappers they aren't very creative musically and they all talk about the same things (bitches , hoes , drugs , money , bling , booty , sex , dirty south this , west coat that , east coast this .. etc..)

I stopped liking hip hop on a whole when I stopped relating to the message. the mainstream is dominated by being tougher, more ruthless, richer,more promiscuous, and willing to murder than other people. I dont like "nu metal" for much the same reason.

Im not an angry guy, I dont want to be filthy rich, I hate the taste of champagne, and I hate chrome, especially on the wheels of my car.

However, I do purchase and listen to "hip hop" records on occasion, as there is always some good stuff out there. You just wont ever catch me buying the latest new mainstream artist.

If you go back to his earlier work, you'll find that it gets more and more hip-hop based (I only have two before his "best of" compilation, they're not very easy to find where I live), never straightforward but you can tell what his roots were.

I also think he's become incredibly bored with hip-hop, there was something he said in an interview which led to a falling out with Sage Francis. I'm not sure where they stand at the moment, but I think Buck retracted his statement.

95% of all music in any given genre is not very good.

The trick is to keep an open mind and search out the 5% that is actually good. You will need to listen to a lot of rubbish just to get a few gems.
