when i chop an audioclip into smaller regions is there a keyboard shortcut to preview them? At the moment I use the preview command into the clip's menu but it's not really handy..

dude FL shortcuts are so easy to find, just hover your cursor over a feature, if there is a shortcut it will say what it is in the info/hint box in the tool bar...;)

btw if you can automate a feature you will see a red circle too

in this case there is no info in the toolbar...and no red circle, cause is a menu entry, not a plugin parameter. It's strange I thought that if your are able to mess whith slices on the fly you should also be able to preview (actually prelisten) each slice on the fly also.
This feature is present if a chop a sample into the fruity slicer...but if i take the same sample and i load it as an audioclip (and chop it) I can't fast preview each slice...i have to go to the audioclip menu (the little triangle on the top right of the clip) select the 1st menu voice (preview). This is quite irritating and stops the workflow when i'm rearranging slices...it would be easy to preview a slice using some combination (e.g. ctrl-click or others)

Other than the reliable F keys, shortcuts are flakey in FL Studio. Just try ctrl-E to open the editor on a sample. I can only get it to work if I right-click on the wav preview, and then I could just as easily pick the Edit option...

Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V for copying channel pattern data only work if the Channel Settings window is closed. That one's been a slight aggravation to me for years now.

Just out of curiosity had to check that out on 5.02c demo... I seriously have no idea what you're talking about, as copypasting works just fine - could it be that you have focus in the Channel Settings window?-)

As you do know, focus on a certain window mean functions related to another window don't necessarily work?-)

Never experienced that kind of problem with cut/paste either... obviously if you want to cut and paste pianoroll-data, you'll want to have that window active, and the same for anything else (playlist data etc). But other than having the focus in the wrong place I've never had problems...

Yes, it is focus related. When you use the channel buttons, the Channel Settings window opens by default and gets the focus (hindering the Copy/Paste shortcut keys). In the step sequencer, in order to copy/paste properly I have to:

* Click the channel selector button to select the channel to copy
* Click the channel selector button a second time to hide the Channel Settings window
* Press ctrl-C to copy
* Click the channel selector button to select the channel to paste into
* Click the channel selector button to hide the Channel Settings window again
* Press ctrl-V to paste

Is there any reason why channel settings gets the focus when it's opened? Seems like copy/pasting in the step sequencer would be a lot easier if it didn't.

Hmm... feels funny to give out advices when I'm not even a regged user. But here we go:

There are those small "led bars" to the right of the channel button. Those are for selecting channels.

Left-click selects a channel (for copying or pasting).

After one channel is selected, there's a few more functions:

If you left-click the selected channel again, all channels are selected.

If you right-click another channel when one channel is selected, the right-clicked one will also be selected.

So... if you for example want to select all channels but one, you left-click any of the channels twice, and then right-click the one you don't want to select.

(Remember, all clicking mentioned above means clicking the "led bar" on the right side of the channel button)

It's actually quite elegant, IMHO. (Quite quick and logical compared to hosts I'm using)

Also, when you are copying and pasting several channels, the copied content is relative to the topmost channel selected for pasting... a simple example:

Select channels 1 and 2 and CTRL+C to copy their contents.

Then select a target channel, let's say channel 3.

CTRL+V to paste the copied content, and channel 1's contents go to channel 3 and channel 4's contents go to channel 4.

Try it a couple of times to get the hang of it :)

And don't forget to check out the manual...

Step Sequencer -> Step Sequencer subtitle, item 12 - Channel selector.

Hope this helped you :)

(I wonder if any of the diehard FL users will get upset for not pointing you to Looptalk for advice :P)

Thanks. The LEDs do work better than the channel buttons. Now I've just got to break 3 years of habitual use!

If you right-click another channel when one channel is selected, the right-clicked one will also be selected.
I believe you will find that in the FL step sequencer you can only select mutiple channels to copy this way by having them adjacent to each other in the SS...no big deal though, all you have to do is use alt + the up and down arrows to move channels....;)

Sadly, you're wrong. Just tested it. Selected channels 1 and 3, and pasted to channel 2 - result being that chan 1's contents went to chan 2 and chan 3's contents to chan 4.

Try it, it really works :)

I'm really starting to feel for FL, a couple of improvements that are vital to me and I'm on board...
