The official Live 5 release date is 24th July.

Those upgrading can take advantage of a special offer on the Operator synth up until 31st July :hyper:

Post

headquest: I noticed that in the email too. The Operator price is good not just for upgraders from all previous full versions of Live, all the way back to version 1, but also for all "lite" versions.

Post

Yeah. I've held back getting Operator so far, but I have to admit that now I'm tempted, and the discounted price is one that I think everyone will agree is more than fair (some thought the original Operator price was too high).

So I think I shall be getting Live 5 and Operator together 8)

Post

Damn i've got some serious bills to pay this month, but grabbing live 5 with operator cheap is way too tempting - looks like i'll be eating rice, beans & baked taties next month.

How much is Operator with the upgrade?

From the email I got:
Upgrade to Live 5 between Live 5 day of release and July 31st and get Operator for the special price of EUR 89/USD 99. This offer is good for ALL upgrades to Live 5, including upgrades from Live versions 1 through 4 and from all lite versions.

To take advantage of this special offer, visit www.ableton.com/upgrade between Live 5 day of release and July 31st, enter your old Live serial number and complete the order process. You will be provided with your new serial numbers at the moment of purchase.
Over on the Ableton forums there is much angst because some people bought Operator before the special. :-( *sigh* I and other folks have been trying to explain why it's not a ripoff, but... ah well, go figure.

OK, I still can't justify it for myself, too much good freeware and I already have FM7.

*nod* I have FM7 too, great program. Operator looks very nice for those who want an FM synth though. And it looks MAH-velous. :-D

And I have to be honest that I do very little patch creation in FM7. That's a big selling point for Operator IMO, that you can get into FM synthesis without devoting your life to it. Too bad it can only be used in Live, but with all the improvements in Live5 that concerns me less now than when Operator was originally released.

Good point, braj, one that I'd overlooked. I've made some patches for FM7 but they weren't what you'd call earth-shaking. :-)

So far, I like this version better than previous ones I've tried.

A newbie question: when you're playng stuff in Live, is there a button anywhere to record output to disc in real-time? I've discovered render to disc, and I've discovered how to record to an audio track, but a simple "live record to disc" has so far eluded me.

A second newbie question: when palying in loop mode and recording to an audio track, is there any way to get that audio track to ignore loop mode?

To both of those questions: I don't think so. Maybe try TapeIt?

Pity. EnergyXT will do as workaround, too, I was just hoping that there might be something built-in.

Thanks.

put this in the master track as a plugin:

Thanks, a workaround isn't hard for me to come by, but I've found a couple of times after getting something good going, that my first instinct is to look for a big "click here to record" button in the interface. That's one of the reasons I like Audiomulch so much, there are recording contraptions all over the place.
