Hello Everybody,
I just wanted to let those who were interested that the new Miroslav Philharmonik Orchestra plug in will be released late this month. For anyone that doesn't know about the Miroslav samples here is some info.
Miroslav™ orchestral samples are some of the most playable and inspiring sounds ever produced for symphonic arrangements and composition. They've marked the atmosphere of hundreds of movies and productions and have become the tool of choice for many Oscar® winning composers. Read more about Miroslav Vitous. The original set of sample CDs sold for around 3,000. But now it is avaliable as a plug in from IK Multimedia for 499.00(Retail).
Another unique Miroslav Philharmonik feature is the inclusion of a high-quality master reverb in its list of 20 effects, with an easy to use version of IK’s new CSR, Classik Studio Reverb.
Also included are IK’s other award-winning effects, like the warmth of the analog EQ and compressors derived from T-RackS and AmpliTube. These included effects are perfect for obtaining that smooth orchestra sound.
Miroslav Philharmonik also includes other features that have made SampleTank the industry-standard sound workstation, including a search function, full MIDI controls of the parameters, zone editing, multiple outputs and more.
• 16 part multi-timbral sample-based orchestral workstation.
• 20 Classic DSP effects
• 4 insert effects per instrument.
• 4 Master effects with separate sends
• Hi-quality master reverb derived from CSR
• Multiple synth engines including STRETCH™ and Pitch-Shift/Time-Stretch.
• Mix view allows full mix parameter control.
• Classical music-oriented parameter names make it easy to use.
• Zone feature for accurate single sample editing.
• Full MIDI control of performance parameters.
• Part preset and combi preset customization features.
• 256 notes polyphony.
• Available as a VST, RTAS, DXi, AU plug-in for Mac OSX and Windows from the same box.

With Philharmonik this close, how does this affect the release date of ST2.1 and the incorporation of the engine features that were developed for Miroslav into that release or future engine updates? The Philharmonk instrument will be great, but I'm mostly looking forward to it as a library for ST2 itself.

Bass: Hey, ST 2.1 will be released close behind Miroslav.
You will NOT (at first) be able to use the Miroslav sounds in ST2 interface. You will have to use the Miro interface (for now).

Ok, thanks. Not to complain too unreasonably, but with the aquisition of the Miroslav Vitous libray I assume in late '04 as it was announced I seem to recall at Winter NAMM or Frankfurt, development of the Philharmonik-specific engine elements should have been occuring in parallel with that of ST 2.1, as well as CSR. I mention CSR because I understand its algorithm to be included in the Philharmonik engine, so why not the ST 2.1 engine even if the full version isn't ready yet. The delay in full integration is the part I don't get.IK Support wrote:Bass: Hey, ST 2.1 will be released close behind Miroslav.

Anyway, I have learned to expect higher quality form IK when there are these delays since that has been the pattern: work on it 'til it's done right.

The modules are based on the SampleTank engine but it doesn't mean these modules won't have their own proprietary features. Just because Miroslav Philharmonik has it, don't expect CSR inside ST2.1 It was not cheap to add it into Miroslav but something a few of us REALLY wanted badly so IK went the extra mile for us because it was so nice to have for Philharmonik. In fact, this and a few other added content and features made us have to raise the price of Philharmonik to $599 instead of $499. However, instead of raising the price right away we are allowing the first people to order it either from any IK dealer around the world or direct from IK or from www.esoundz.com to be able to get it at the already "old" price of $499 (minus your store's discount). That price became an "introductory" price that will at least be around for the Summer.
ST2.1 as a FREE update to ST2 users (the software part anyway) is already FILLED with great features that were announced (plus additional features that weren't announced like BPM sync on LFOs and a bunch of other stuff). Of course, that's ST2.1 which will be out not long after Philharmonik. Eventually ST versions WILL catch up to ALSO play the fancy stuff inside Philharmonik. I don't know if THAT too will be yet another free update but I suspect not. There are limits to how many features you can develop for an update and not charge for it... at least for a company at this level commercially. I was amazed ST2.1 was even free to be honest for as much as it has.
Anyway, in the long term system Philharmonik will work together with ST2 like SS2 does. But, for now it is even more powerful being a little bit proprietary and suited for the purpose of orchestral composition and performance. It is primarily a virtual instrument of its own! That's actually quite exciting I think. It's much more than just a library now.
