pheeleep wrote: Kaze : Jinro and other spirits. Really cool. Unusual, which it makes it really interesting. Nice piece to sit back to. I guess I could dance to this, in a very unusual way J
Thanks. I guess this is more staggering rhythmically than dancing so if you saw my efforts at dancing, this would make more sense (and you would vote for me out of pity).
Barnadine wrote: kaze/Jinro and Other Spirits (Dance of) - 'Silly'? No way. You evoke a very nice mood here. Some of the timing gets a little bit sloppy for the elegance this kind of music seems to demand, but it does give things a vulnerable human dimension. The... shamisen? (I don't know my Asian instruments too well) - the one panned to the right that carries the bulk of the song - doesn't always integrate perfectly with the rest of the mix, and is sometimes programmed in ways that sound a bit more like keyboard playing than string playing. But these are small points. Very nice.
Thanks for the comments. I find it really difficult to clean up my tracks. I can't seem to do it without killing them. I wish it were possible to work backward. I was aiming for a stumbling kind of feel but only to a point.

Again, cheers for the comments.

Barnadine wrote:Col.G/MC Loser - Whoa. Courageous 'tuning' on the guitar. ;) There's lots of interestingly stroppy stuff going on here... The only big problem was that I felt like I was missing out on half the song - maybe it's because I'm not American, but I found the lyrics pretty much indecipherable. And your lyrics are usually worth hearing too. I think I understood about two and a half words, max. Any chance of a lyrics sheet? Or a translation? Or just a vague clue what the song's about? But that didn't stop me enjoying the bit where you go all James Brown. Hunh! Heh.
Thanks for your review of my song. Glad you liked the JB part.
You're not supposed to understand the words. It's James Brown. :)
Here are the words so you can understand what the song is about.

James Brown:
Going round the world
In a time machine
That I built my self
On PCP

Got information
out of Africa
Them cats be dying
But some prople be triflin'

MC Loser:
I met MC Lyte and Rachel
I met MC Lyte and Sway
I met MC Lyte and Vanessa
I met MC Lyte and your a loser

I met MC Lyte and Vanessa
I met MC Lyte and Sway
I met MC Lyte and Rachel
I met MC Lyte and your old..

The song has to do with Live8 in Philly.
MC Lyte, Vanessa, Sway and Rachel were the "on air celebrities" that ruined the show completely then went out to act like assholes at the after parties and the local retards that think they are great anyway.

pheeleep wrote:Col G. Mc Loser: Not feeling it, sorry. Well recorded/mixed except for the vocals. They sound a bit too bland. I take it you don’t like to put effects on your vocals?
Thanks about the recording and mixing. It's done on my EMU 1820m, which some people complain about but it never gives me any trouble at all and it sounds great. I haven't gotten to the effects on vocals part yet. I am just now getting my mixes better. :)

What afterparties were you at? Yeah they cut up but it was all in good fun, what did you look like? maybe i saw you. I had a press pass courtesy of an NBC cameraman.

Excellent. Thanks, Wopelka. :D I'll go read it now.

Hey, would you like to have a crack at it yourself? I could send you an instrumental mix. I have a feeling my French singing would sound a bit cheesy. Even cheesier than my English singing. :o (Remember 'Head Like a Hole'? :scared:)

Col.G - Thanks for the lyrics. 8) I realise now I understood more of the lyrics than I thought, I just didn't realise I was understanding them. I got as far as 'I'm an MC light and sway'. PCP time machines and social commentary. Hunh! :)

Unqualified reviews for July as Glooper's download tool puts them on my machine. Not going into great detail here, PM me if you want explanations. I feel it's my duty if I've entered to do reviews. So, without further delay....

Andy - Summer on the Sea

General Midi turn me off instantly - Sorry. Also, it sounds quite mono.

Warbug - DOA

Not my style, but production is quite well done.

Kaze - Jinro et al

Very interesting and original for KVR. Inspired, but by what substance?

Kovacs - What I want to do

Not necessarily dance-able, but I like it nonetheless. Lyrics match non-danceable impression. I really like the several flavors of guitar over top of the electronica drum loops. Fade out a little abrupt.

Barnadine - Man of Grace

Barnadine channels Knockman for July, with an equally haunting set of instrumentation. Real nylon string guitar or sampled? Tango anyone?

Col G - MC Loser

If the muppet show was still on TV, I can picture this with Animal doing the rap. Very entertaining. Here's what I would like to hear on this song - if you know Adrian Belew, have him show up with his fretless 6 string. Very 'Twang Bar King' kind of material, and that's a plus in my book.

Glooper - DiscoMission

Where are those vocals from? Excellent break at 1:12, I love it.

Mystahr - Summer Breeze

Can't imagine dancing to this one. Intersting hint at a rhythm track starting around 0:50, but it needs more to move my booty.

nikp2000 - the bollywood hillibillies

What a perfect title. I can imagine a full-on indian percussion groove going kicking in at the phrase starting at 0:28, but it's not there. Check out Herdotus' track for the drums that would go well with your track.

scamme - it's all synthetic

Nice production - welcome change-up at 0:48. Head is bobbing - good sign.

Techbot - Ballam-de-nana-haydum-de

The only thing I didn't care for here was the heavily panned/warped acoustic guitar - kind of muddies up the track on my system.

thomekk - lala

Interesting production in an 'Art of Noise' kind of sense - not necessarily danceable to me.

PepeLogu - I fell for KVR

Pepe wins the prize for the earliest entry before a contest starts, June of 2006 in July of 05. I know many people don't care for vocoded stuff, but I like it and it fits in this song.

Tuz - eye.......

Drunkards on speed with brass and stringed instruments is what I imagine here.

Utm - feedback and oscillate

Nice groove - interesting change from 'Athens'

mchlwlsn - seeker

Where's your guitar, man? If I remember right, you did the Jongleur song last month. You could have put in some drop D chunky chords here and they would have fit perfectly.

Freezstar - So Danco Samba

Can't decide what to make of this. There is a certain cheese-factor to it, but I kind of like it.

ixox - Un tout dernier tango

Another tango, hmm. Violins fairly convincing. The cello in the left channel isn't however, and it makes me listen harder to the violins. Minus points for fade-out.

Herodotus - Frogs don't dance

Might make a nice mash-up with nikp2000's entry.

Jaidy - zisorzat

Drums distracting - too mono - need some space to them.

Beardedone - spinnerfall

another lead-fest from the man with the beard, but not necessarily danceable - even with the lovely description of the inspiriation for the song. I'd love to watch you sequence this stuff.

Scarabaeus - The Return of Fonk'n'stein

See if you can change the title of your song so it complies with contest rules - PM pHz for permission. The GM horns and bass really turn me off, but nice guitar work.

rsmus7 - Poddies Dance

The elimination of the bloopy brass/bass at 0:35 was a welcome relief to me, but dang, there it is again at 1:14

Ugo - Bonfire

Ugo, you might actually turn me into a listener of this kind of stuff. I expected a big dynamic change at 1:10 with that cool synth rise that went on a few measures before that. It came at 1:28 instead. Cool intro - would have made a nice break in the middle somewhere.

Aida Cin - forrage

I really was hoping to hear more of that singer from June's entry. This track doesn't seem to go anywhere for me until about 1:35, then it kind of stops.

vurt - dancecontest:dance or die it's your choice

Ask pHz if you can rename your song so it will not be DQ'ed. Creepy, by the way. Not shaking my booty, sorry.

Respirator - Waltz

Mmm, now this I like. The totally clean guitars bereft of reverb are very refreshing. I would have liked to hear a shuffled waltz drum track in there. Ending is uninspired.

Khepira - Ikt Hut Eit

Nice 90's brass keys there in the right channel. They work here.

GregJazz - All I want to do is dance

Kool & the Greg present one of the grooviest bass lines ever heard on KVR, in two forms, popped and unpopped.

pheeleep - Make Music For Fun

The bass theme got a little old for me; the break at 1:50 would have been nice about 30-40 seconds earlier.

Wilkoryte - Slowdance

This song would have been a winner for me if it didn't have doggoned General Midi drums, bass and organ. Nice bluesy playing on the axe.

astanine - halothane

I just don't groove to this, but well done regardless.

Aldred - Twinkletoes

Aptly named. I'd love to hear compositions like this played by a live orchestra. Do you ever get a chance to have this happen?

AndreasE - Dance of the Animals

Are you really Bernie Krause? Very entertaining.

Knockman - Harimogura

Another attention grabber by knockman, and yes, I can imagine dancing to it.

bitcrusher - my first GURU

Left foot tapping on the 8ths, right on 1 and 3; yep qualifies as danceable, but why so short?

Ja.x - Toast Yourself

pm pHz to see if he will let you change the name of your track so you are not DQ'ed. Not my cup of tea with the inharmonic competing melodies.

Katanaman - Dance with Moi

Now that's got some funk. Ride cymbals out of place at 0:48-0:57.

Shuzhen - Epic Shapes Elapse

Me likes - especially the fades of the verbs on some of the keys to the right. Very nice production. Oops, not even a fade at the end? Major disappointment and severe demerit.

Hovmod - Last Farewell Tango

Maybe we should have a tango theme month? Enough entries here to have one. Nice take on it, Hovmod. My only criticism, the piano kind of falls on itself in a couple of places like at 0:28, 0:43, 1:33. Otherwise, one of the more memorable tracks so far.

Farlukar - Batium

Keep waiting for things to get a little more cleaned up, but not happening. The lead a little less dirty would have been a welcome change.

scuzzphut - screamer

Not my style, but I can appreciate the production skills necessary. Oops, crummy fade out at the end.

Damstraversaz - Final pepe au bal

Don't know what to make of this, but I kind of like it.

TristezaOrange-BipolarBear

If it weren't for that snare, this one would have made it more favorable to me - but the snare is going to make me go to the next track before the 2 minutes are done - sorry - oh wait, a break from it at 1:20, oops there it is again, next please.

Mully - Ubelong2me

Mully also enters the KVR song contest 11 months early, with a short song, but it works.

Armadillo - Panther

Reminds me of the same style as scuzzphut's but with a better KVR contest ending.

liqih - Tip Tap Stomp

Which month and year was this for? Cheeky weird but likeable. 1 second too long however.

Richie B - Dance to this

groovy guitar work Richie B. Real or sampled? I might just vote for you.

Wopelka - The Cave Hall electro Menuet

This one might have made it farther up my list if the melody fit better with the backing instrumentation.

JamesB - Mooshoo

Weak drums hurt this track as do the GM guitar or clav sound. Otherwise, the organs have a nice groove. Fadeout suspicious

LadyJ - Jump and Wind

Fade in and out? I'd like to have heard more of the vocals - where it first got interesting for me, but what is that processing on them that makes them sound warbly? I'd like to hear them more clean.

Well that's all of the songs that the glooper program downloaded for me. I hope there aren't too many more entries, this takes a very long time!

i'm reviewing the following entries yo :P

lady j-jump and wind-excellent song. very professional. although, i must say it doesn't categorize as dance music in my head. maybe drive wicked fast music.

jamesb-mooshoo-noone said you have to dance like crazy. :D. excellent composition. slow dance with a chick. grab her ass slowly. :P

wopelka-the cave hall electro menuet-i friggin love this!! you're twisted man. i love the gated violin bits. adds a bit of naughtiness to the piece. i don't know how the hell i would dance to this myself. but i can sure imagine others dancing. i would probably look like a contortionist myself, if i tried to.

richiebee-dancetothis-hehe. excellent. funky. i don't wanna dance though. i wanna watch the girls dance. :P (what the hell is wrong with me?)

liqih-tip tap stomp-i love the twisted samba beginning. i'd definitely do the robot to add some visual fun to it.

armadillo-panther-i'd defitely love to hear this very loud at a dark club with the only light being in the cages that the dancing girls are in. i'll be f**ked up, having a blast.

multree-ubelong2me-very cool sounding. chill dance. talent screaming!!! for some reason, i want this to be in the next fifa videogame soundtrack.

tristeza orange-bipolar bear-very creative composition. now it's gonna get stuck in my head :x . kinda silly, although i can kinda see how it's danceable to. maybe semi-robot.

damstraversaz-pepe va au bal-i'm not able to open this file. :(

scuzzphut-screamer-oh yeah baby!!! excellent.... excellent!! :D now i'm deaf from listening it so loud. :x

farlukar-batium-dude!!! i'm turkish man!!! what the f**k???? i swear to god i just got goosebumps. i definitely know how to dance to this. hehe. this is mine forever. :D

hovmod-last farewell tango-beautiful. absolutely beautiful. so pure. i don't know how to dance to tango but i'm willing to learn :) . maybe you could develop this into something bigger. add a bit of bandoneon or something maybe?

shuzhen-whoa!!! funky. do i hear castanets? sounds so full and alive. excellent mix. although i don't know if i could dance to this.

katanaman-dance with moi-i don't know man. you got me all excited with prodigy/chemical brothers, i just started playing the tune without reading the rest of the post. the tune is great, i have nothing against it but i don't think it's really danceable to. just my personal opinion, no offense. as far as abstract funky glitch hop goes. this is it. :)

patrick9-konversation-dead link?

kaos axiom-dude i can't find the link.

ja.x-toast yourself-you're bad influence!!! you bastard!!! :P i shall get toasted in your honor. very f**ked up dance tune. i like it. :D. i can see why this is danceable definitely. after getting toasted i'll be too tired to dance, but i'll rock or bob my head or something. :D

ok... i really did get toasted. heheh.

rockstar_not-dance song serial number 1-i'm liking this a lot right now. first toast after the song. :P kidding aside, i liked this a lot. i definitely felt something trying to get out me. tickled my brain with that solo. i like that thank god for guitars sig. can't play for shit myself. had a cool crackly white painted charvel. i had this dude modify it and shit. i got short and stubby fingers not suitable for anything but fast gypsy solos. :P i like this a lot.

bitcrusher-myfirstguru-top quality man!!! excellent dance tune.

knockman-harimogura-cool!!! you're in tokyo. sweet!!! i love this tune man!!! you're one twisted mofo!!! :hail: :hail: not much to say but perfect. a video clip to this would definetely involve a graceful geisha dancing with silver stag beetle earrings at a bar while you sing this live with a band.

andrease-dance of the animals- i can't dance to this. but i know who can!!! :P you definitely put a smile on my face.

aldred-twinkle toes-holy shit man!!! i give up!!! i'm putting an end to my hobby as a crappy musician. awesome work.
