Well, I'll mess around with the idea and see if I can come up with anything that's better than a plain LFO.PT wrote:I don't know if anything would work. There is no way that I can see to get the speed of the vibrato to be right. Also, as a guitar player who uses vibrato a lot, I always vary the vibrato rate even on a single note.
I think vibrato may have to remain a performance tool as much as note choice is a performance choice.

how about some built-in randomization to the lfo in order for a more natural vibrato?

Yeah, there should definitely be some options with the LFO. For example, when you do vibrato on a guitar, the pitch only goes up, it never goes below the original pitch, you know? Also, sometimes you slowly fade into vibrato... I'm thinking the amount of fade can depend on velocity. I don't want to have too much controls, but I want to have useful controls.floyd wrote:how about some built-in randomization to the lfo in order for a more natural vibrato?

Best way to control LFO amount is MIDI channel pressure (that or mod wheel). That's already possible with any .sf2, I believe.

Heheh, yeah, a bit of extra space there. I'll find some cool controls to put there.androidlove wrote:guess it won't be ready till there's sumpin in the lower right corner

There's a few more things I need to fix with it, and then I think I'll put it up here for you guys to play around with.

Balance the tone across the keyboard? I'm afraid I don't quite understand.PT wrote:One of those keyboard sliders to balance the tone across the keyboard would be nice.
Ooh, speaking of that, it would be cool to be able to adjust the velocity response...

I forget what it is called.
If you have a font that has a bright low end and a duller sound up higher on the keyboard you can use the keybaord control to balance them.
I'll go look for the propper name.

The sfz+ has one as does the KXsf2 http://kx77free.free.fr/#plugins_kx77free.
It is in the filter section and works with the cutoff to
affect the high frequencies of either the low end or the high end of the keyboard.
It can be useful to balance the sounds tone across the keyboard.
I have some piano soundfonts for example that are good except that the higher end of the keyboard sounds too dull compared to the lower end. This control allows this to be fixed.
