ok,

this might sound funny: :-)
and it is not to flame anything/anyone,
but rather one of my deepest secret thoughts...

i think sawstudio at least "looks"
cheap like a $ 9,99,- software,
made by some student, being a beginner
in programming.

plus,
it is even more expensive than steinberg stuff,
OMG!

so, is it worth it? and why?

i doubt that it can do way much more,
than anything else...

well, it can`t make coffee,
or can`t give me a ride to the moon, either.

or is it meant to be a way,
for multi millionaires
to get rid of their peanuts?!

or did i miss something,
like, maybe it comes bundled together
with a 88-keys master-keyboard?

there was a thread in SOS forum about this like last year - it doesn't say much but one thing that becomes clear based on this is that it's been around for ages (like mid 90s). Also, a lot of people seem to praise its stability/speed - I haven't checked out the program myself but I might do after I remembered this one again - anyway, here's the URL to that thread in the other forum

[Even though this has been quoted, I am editing this post. It really was too strong. Sorry, bambooman.]

I suggest going to their website, and trying the demo. View the tutorials. They may help, too.

Uh, $1200.00 hardly warrants the moniker "cheap".

Your ignorance is so great that it could have powered the Big Bang.

Go to their website, try the demo. View the tutorials. Figure it out for yourself.

That's just rude. The impression I get is that the *only* way to get info on this, very expensive software, is to look at the marketing stuff. To the point, there are not a whole lot of people on this forum who are using it, who can give horse's mouth information.

Don't call someone ignorant just because they come to you for information. Do you have experience with saw, or do you just enjoy putting people down?

I think he's asking $600 for it, not the full price of $1200.

well, i guess maybe 'ignorant' wasn't such a good word to use here, but I think what woc53 meant is that it is 'ignorant' to judge a host by its looks and slag it off based on its looks/price without knowing anything about it - this was certainly the impression I got from the original post too anyway. :p

I don't know - i never used this before, but I first came across SawStudio last year - read about it in the SOS forum link that I posted and thought it was quite interesting, but it somehow slipped off my mind and I never got around to try the demo.

I'm not in position to defend SawStudio's functionality or price tag in any way, but given its legacy that I read about I won't automatically label it as BS ware just based on looks and price tag...

at the end of the day though, yes, some in-depth review by someone who's used it for long time and know it inside out would be great. I would love to try the demo some time but I can't make that sort of time commitment at the moment and I get the feeling that this host would deserve at least a week of extensive experimentation to judge its full merit...

Read the entire orginal post, again, James. He likened the developer to a beginner $9.95 programmer.

Bob Lentini, the developer of SAWStudio (and the SAW line of products before it) has been a pioneer in the computer audio world. I read bambooman's post as a casual and uninformed insult to him and his clients.

Mr. Lentini originally *brought* audio to the PC platform with his early (and successful) programs. SAWStudio, the current program, was officially released in 2001, and is currently in version 3.9g. And, yes, I am a registered user of SAWStudio and a number of other DAW programs.

I would suggest going to www.sawstudio.com, where there is a wealth of information, plus a link to the official forum where you may ask questions of the users and the developer himself.

If it still sells despite highest ( ? ) price, there must be some reasons somewhere and still some people satisfied ...
Price related to possibilities and time to explore them, " paybacks " in workflow timegains, quite specific needs fullfilled.

Rather to be your lastest host than your first.

I'am ashamed I just coudn't go beyond the deterrent GUI, I understand they want to make a difference but even as a freeware I would flee, the fonts, colors, wasted space, well the overall " UI / GUI spirit " ... etc

Among the fastest programs ever ? :o

I thought I had upgraded when I tested it ...

Fortunately, the program is skinnable. There are many "shades" (bitmaps) for the program that can give it a much different look. Many are third party "shades," produced by various users.

I apologize for snapping your head off, bambooman.

And, james0tucson, I have toned down my response to you.

I've seen SAW running something like five years ago in a studio and... what can I say ? It was a real ProTools' a$$ kicker. Fast, efficient, powerful, awesome. :o And f*cking nice. :hihi:

But nowadays ? Is there still any room left on the market for well designed, well programed and greatly optimized applications ? Sadly, I'm don't think so. You know, our computers are so megagiga-fast now that any piece of java or other cross-platform high level 'scripts' looks like pure assembler at runtime. :?

Read it again-he's asking $650 for all 4 products

How about a review from a major player who ditched Digi/PT and uses Saw exclusively? Samp/Sequoia has
a couple like that.
