Yes, the first one is strikingly obvious. I'm simply seeing things from a larger perspective than "hey it gives attention to KVR and other forums supporting the idea". Hence my opinions on having a dedicated site that contains all the relevant information and so on. No need for users to follow the schedules and announcements from one forum, commit content via several forums, read discussions such as this from another forum... etc.Spe3D wrote: Rob has my support and clearly I am not against his philosophies or project, you will also notice he has the support of the K-v-R user base.
As for having KVR:ers support, that one is not only obvious but expected. And what ever I'm saying in my postings isn't mean to take anything away from them, if you (or anybody else) read things correctly.
Though I said I'd butt out of this and talk things with Rob 'behind the scenes', apparently I can't
Hearing other peoples' opinions counts a lot of course.
... hence my comment about "not wanting to discuss things with you" - damn, why don't more people participate and air their opinions
Of course - provided we agree on thingsSpe3D wrote: My suggestion to you is to support his and EMC Radios philosophies in what ever way you can - personally I think reading the last post by Rob shows he also has the right idea about getting awarness to the radio etc.
I'm rather certain that what ever I can offer to Rob for this project will greatly enhance things. At this point I'm just uncertain about all aspects of things. That's why I'm still flooding this thread with my megaposts though I first said I wouldn't.
Thanks for the deep and accurate analysis of what I wrote... sheesh, did you even read what I wrote?-)vtx wrote: I think jmh is over analyzing things, if your not interested, don't participate, nobody really cares,
somebody is helping out and doing something they enjoy, fun is the number 1 priority..
Before going on, I'd also like to point out, since it might have escaped you, that I'm more than interested in this, and since it'd be a totally voluntary thing, it should also be obvious that I'd be doing what I can for Rob because it's fun... if it wasn't, I would have kept my mouth shut about this thing
If I wasn't interested, I wouldn't bother to post, and certainly wouldn't reply to your comments. As for nobody caring.. you care enough to comment
- streams in not only mp3 but other formats, ogg being the prime candidate
- hiqh quality streams, or rather, streams in several qualities to accomodate the listeners' needs
- way more bandwidth for streaming -> way more possible listeners... we're talking about a dedicated machine on a 100mbit connection, with the possibility of dedicating bandwidth on other servers for load balancing and such "non-trivialities"
- a maintenance system for Rob for handling things on the server end... tailored and built to his needs
- information such as schedules, detailed playlist contents, dedicated section for giving exposure to the artists who've given out something to play
- anything else you could think of as added value to a site, be it forums, mailing lists, what ever... all are possibilities than can be done if the need for such is expressed
... and all this for free. The only catch for this is that *I* have to feel comfortable about it (besides the main tech guy, but he's already given a go-ahead on this and wants to know what kind of gadgets he should provide for us), and the requirements for my comfort are
1) agreeing on Rob's ideas (which we are discussing privately)
2) if I see it as a good service for this forum and the other forums whose participants might be supplying content in the future
3) knowing exactly what's needed from the technical point of view and thus being able to give a good estimation on what's possible and how it'll be realized
4) feeling good about giving something to the community
5) knowing that someone out there appreciates the effort
After all, it'll mean some serious work on our side, and dedicating bandwidth to the project. I'm not asking anyone to kiss my behind in order to get me to participate, but I'm at least asking for dialogue which is based on giving out opinions and basing them somehow.
Regards,
JMH

What a mess,
I think I will leave you to it, not going into polotics - I am about getting the best audience possible - with a project that could go well, not get involved with hijacks and frankly 'rude' guys, 'jmh'
Thank you

Haven't forgotten about you, Techbot mentioned your part in this in his last email. Don't worry, as soon as we hit that stage in the discussion, you'll be informed

Haha... well, I guess you read between the lines.Spe3D wrote:What a mess,

However, despite pointing out that your sites are getting attention and thus you're a tad defensive... that wasn't the point. It still isn't about "directing the attention from Audioshots/Auditorium elsewhere", but providing coherency to things.
Hijacks? That's one way to put... could be said that you've hijacked things as well to get attention to your sites?
As for rude... so far I've done my best to say things in a way that makes it clear that I'm not targeting my opinions towards anyone directly... but you're free to feel that way.
Never really knew that asking for clarifications and opinions was considered rude. This post might be though. Like I said, I felt there was a reason why you and me shouldn't discuss this between ourselves in public like this... since it lead to what you just wrote.
Sorry that you've apparently misunderstood what I've been saying as if I was after you in any way.
