I _think_ the release is supposed to be on July 24, but don't recall whether that was official. And yes, beta 17/RC2 is the current version.

I can appreciate how nice it is to have several different areas on screen but however nice it might look - it is not a good limitation to have when carrying out detailed midi editing.

Both these programs (I own one and sold the other through frustration) could really benefit from this one enhancement.

I can only imagine I am in the minority when it comes to needing a large canvas to do my midi work in?

Grab the midi screen and drag uuuup :)

If you want it toggled then press shift-f12 once you've opened it all the way.
If it sounds good it is good.

Okay, we're getting very close to the release now, and Ableton have just put out Release Candiate 3 / Beta 18.

Apart from a small handful of bug fixes (these seem to have virtually finished now :) ) the big news on this latest beta is that the Skins are included now.

So take a look at them and post back your comments!

Cheers

...and now Release Cndidate 4 / beta 19 is available... 8)

So, I noticed with the skins in the last beta that they are now context sensitive in the sense that the colours change depending on the section of the interface you are working with.

In some skins this "highlighting" is a helpful idea, but in others I thought it led to clashes of colour, and even thought it was a bug at first :?

So what do you all think?

Post

most good ideas need to be refined, I think it's a good one but not perfect yet

Post

In the skin I'm using (Nautic) I'm finding it helpful actually.

Yes, in principal I think it is a good idea (now I'm over the initial shock!), but as stale bread says, not yet perfected perhaps. In some of the skins it looks quite odd (try "Cardboard" for example!)

hey all, Ableton live 5 is gonna RAWK, just one question, can one create their own custom skins in ableton ? seems childish, but i'd love to create my own lol :)

No I'm afraid not (officially) although I believe that for the real boffins there actually is a way. Plus you're not the first to request that so I guess it will be in there at some future point!

However the selection is quite varied and there are some really nice ones in there.

To get back to arrangement view, when you're editing audio/midi in full screen, you can also hit Shift+tab or click on the effects scroller at the bottom right of the screen to the left of the little arrow. the one that says the name of the track. for instance 1-MIDI or 2-Audio.

and you can just click on the arrow, too. that's what shift-12 activates. a couple of those are ghetto-hacks i think. not sure what the proper way is, but they all work :hihi:

...and it sounds like Abelton hopes this is it.

Anyone having any problems with recording while using the arpeggiator?

I just downloaded the beta, after having poked around with the Project 5 demo and loving the arp they included. To my surprise, there was a very nice arp in Live too. I recorded a synth part and had no problem, but I then loaded up a Simpler and dropped in a kick, as well as high hat samples. I set the arp to 1/8 so as to get a 4/4 kick with an offset hat. I hit record and held down the corresponding keys, but it didn't seem to want to play right, and even though it showed the two notes held down for the duration of the midi clip....it didn't trigger the drum samples. Also at this point, the samples would no longer respond to my keyboard either. I had to actually delete and reload another Simpler to get it to respond again. I am not that familiar with Live, so maybe there's something I'm missing....but how intuitive a program is usually determines whether or not I'll use it. For what it's worth, I found Project 5 VERY intuitive...being a longtime Sonar user and all...but I have some issues with that program as well. I'm basically looking for a more "inspired" program that I can have fun "playing"...and it's between Live and Project 5.

Oh, and another thing, is there any way to get Live to search my entire drive for VSTs....I'm a sloppy bastard who didn't install them all in the same folder from the beginning. If so, I find this retarded, as I have no problem like this in Sonar or even Project 5.
