been flip floppin' thru my assorted collection of hosts quite a bit lately... err, I own...

Tracktion (most used cos it's a dream if you work with audio lots)
Energy-XT (forever changing, versatile, I can't help but experiment with it!)
Live5 (performed first "live" set recently, pretty kick ass)
Podium (most recent purchase cos I really like Fritz pace... development is not too fast, but not too slow.. everything is very well thought out! and it's uber object oriented)
FLStudio (excellent sample mangling tools and automation)
Renoise (uhh.. yeah I like trackers too!)
Bidule (who doesn't love squigly lines and connecting shit! +FFT)
Orion Platinum (never upgraded past version 4, that tells you something)

wtf man! :nutter:

and each has aspects that I absolutely LOVE and HATE with the exception of Orion which is purely hate. So do you work the red light district too? :hihi:

Feel the need to add Mulch to the collection too... ugh! I'm a dirty whore!

sorry... finally a day off work and I'm bored. :D

Energy XT
Traktion 1
and teetering on the edge of getting Live 5
(nto to mention rebirth and reason 2.5)

I always find it remarkable how the host somehow affects the style of music i make... so a good variety of hosts cannot be wrong :hihi:

I started with Acid 4 - not quite what I wanted.

Then I got CW Home Studio 2002. It was on the right track. Then I found a copy of Sonar 2 "competitive upgrade" that worked from Acid, so I switched from 2002 to Sonar.

Bundled with one of the Cakewalk products was an older version of Fruity loops. I played with that for a while, and ended up upgrading to FL 3.56, and eventually 4P. For a while this became my primary scratch-pad host, but I'd do audio work and finishing in Sonar. I also got Directixer for VST-DXI, and later Energy XT to use as a VSTI.

I got Brainspawn Forte as a beta tester.

I upgraded Sonar 2 to 4P when I got an offer to do the upgrade for the same price as 3 to 4P. I started to do more work directly in Sonar.

Word about Dimension came out, so I decided I'd get a cheap copy of P5V1 for the free upgrade to P5V2. I've decided I like Project5, so I've largely stopped using FLS.

So yes, I guess I'm a whost <G> whore... but not a platform whore :D

ableton live 5 - workhorse host (just edged out the next in the list recently now that CPU hunger seems to be shrinking)

mackie tracktion 2 - still nothing better / faster for hacking together sketches or doing stuff thats not quite sequencing and not quite audio editing either

energy XT - saw less use due to racks in T2 but might get busier now im back in live a lot of the time

audiomulch - fun for experimental audio stuff ... still my host of choice for aimless ambient noodling

plogue bidule - great for the REALLY weird stuff

tobybear minihost - clever little tool ... sees most use for quick demoing / testing of plugins

FL studio - VERY rarely ever opened any more other than a few archived projects

massiva - still installed from digging up an old track a while back ... nostalgia ...

tuareg 2 - not a VST host (but bram IS AFAIK working on one of those) but does host its own native instruments and samplers ... i still like to use this since it gives a VERY different workflow to any of the others i have and can give ideas i wouldnt otherwise get ...

(have also previously used ... buzz ... aodix ... psycle ... cubasis ... magix music studio ... forte ... )

EDIT (for debutante) ... using these hosts to make anything from (unfinished) raggedy hip-hoppish stuff to (unfinished) ambient bollocks ... mostly live 5 and T2 for the former and mostly audiomulch and bidule for the latter ... though not exclusively ...

Pas moi:

- Tracktion 95% of the time
- Energy XT 5% (as a sequencer, I mean-- I use it lots as a VST still)
- Cakewalk Plasma Express for cobbling together Acid-loop drum tracks.

That's all she wrote.

I'd like to have a closer look at Podium some day, but I suspect that as someone who sees his host primarily as a "glorified tape machine" (ie. I don't do a lot of weird MIDI or patching) that I won't find much better than Tracktion to meet his personal needs.

I have crapwalk home toilet 2002xl as well but not installed. I was going to get Sonar home studio, but after doing some reading and thinking I realized that even though it was only 60 bux I just didn't need it..

Logic 5.5.1.
SX3 for whatever reasons (basically for teaching, I never get work done in it).
eXT, not in use as a sequencer yet, so it doesn't really count.

Of course I also got T1 but don't use it. And I even have an unopened box of Samplitude 6 hanging around somewhere, don't even ask me why...
