My problem: When i click in notes in the piano roll some of the notes are slightly off pitch, yet they are on pitch when i click on them in the TauPro interface. When i hit play in Sonar some of the notes are slightly off pitch with the rest of the mix. Does anyone know what's going on?

Strangest bug I ever heard of. Regardless of how a note on message enters the engine (from the UI or via MIDI) it's the same code that processes it afterwards, there's no WAY the pitch could be different unless the fault is occuring in your DXi wrapper program. Which wrapper are you using? Can you write out a WAV file to demonstrate or send the Sonar song to us?

Sorry it took so long in replying - been very busy.
After running some more tests i think it MAY be that im using a synth and not real samples (sf2, gig, exs, etc). It's more like the timbre is off instead of the pitch. Notes in the mid-range seem to be okay, yet the notes high or low from that note seem to be somewhat off. When i use samples i don't have this problem. Could it be a 'synth' thing (e.g. do all synths have a certain frequency or whatever by which they function that could explain the off-set timbres)? I'll try to up some examples to show what i mean; until then it would be nice to have the DXi version - tharris4@jam.rr.com. BTW, i still think the TauPro sounds awsome!!

Sorry fella but I've checked and checked, the pitches generated from Tau Pro's oscillator are quite correct. You can see for yourself in a scope - are you sure you haven't been listening to a patch that uses the detune or chorus controls?
One tip, when using detune, is to set one oscillator to +X and the other to -X where X is half your desired detune amount. This will give you the required phasing effect but keep the perceived pitch dead on. With chorus its harder to say - slow LFO waves, lots of width and feedback will cause apparent pitch changes, its in the nature of the effect.

so lets say you build a chordsequence with some instrument and you put muon tau pro sounds under it
couldn`t it be the instrument responceble for your 1st chordsequence is realy off key
I use the muon freebee often (used it in the december contest) i never noticed off key notes
i don`t have the pro version but i think it uses a same type of oscilater and key determination isn`t it ?
i am not much of a tech head but one other thing .... when you change a signal from sinewave to blockwave

If you're using something like a sampled instrument (Sf, Giga etc.) on the backing track there's no guarantee each note is going to be in tune - that'd depend on the sampled instrument. If you sample a piano (or even an analogue synth for that matter!) there's going to be some variation in pitch from note to note. It isn't always desirable to re-tune each sample to perfect pitch afterwards either as this can spoil the character of some sounds. I personally wouldn't dream of it when making a sample bank for DS404 except on totally bum notes.

BTW the oscillator technology in Tau and Tau Pro are totally different. Tau uses BLIT-SWS, Tau Pro uses a wavetable oscillator with 2x oversampling and a polyphase antialiasing filter.

Wow, it's as if you, Poweruser and Muon, know my situation exactly. Many thanx to you!
I don't think i could have assested it any better.

I also think it's the fact that, i'm not used to some of these things. I'm pushing 58 tracks on Sonar with a 2 ghz, 512 ram, system (8 loaded plugins); hmmm... mayby that has a little too do with it, i don't know.
But i DID listen carefully to the tau and tau pro and they are indeed precise in their note mapping. I think it's just a mixture of several things including the things you guys showed me. Anyway, thanx again for conversing with me about my 'pitch perplexities'
