just wondering if anyone knows where i could find some really realistic long looped french horns, trumpets, etc without sounding cheap midi

Hi RonC,
The best I have found is Pro Samples Vol 25 - Phantom Horns ... You need to play around a bit but once you've laid the samples down on a midi keyboard they come to life... especially with bit of reverb and equalisation.

I don't mind this. It sounds a bit thin for a real french horn I reckon, but you could give it a try. I don't know if this link will work if you don't have an account at this site. You will need one to download anyway. You can search on the site, but it is mainly filled with crap and then people that sit there praising the crap. There are some nice SF2s.
