The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

And a real show of the character of most people on KvR that it did not degenerate into the typical "you're a racist, no you are' name calling and baiting. It really warms my heart that people can see all sides in this discussion.

Lady J,

Out of interest, do you believe the races are genetically predisposed to prefering different types of music? Do you subsribe to these theories that black and hispanic people naturally have 'soul' in their genes?

Or like myself, do you feel it is more a cultural / developmental phenomena?

It's all cultural. That's why i said the above sarcastically. Because sadly some people still believe there are genes which predispose someon to liking salsa or merenge, hip hop and RnB, nu-metal, country etc...

its all cultural.

Im afraid to say its something your born with , there are a small number of blacks that arent born with it, but most of them actually FEEL it in there bones, so much so that blacks are the sole innovators of ALL kinds of dancing.

I remember back in the seventies and eighties when I saw a white person dance it looked like they were all off timming and sync, heck even the few that could dance back then were either half black or have been watching VERY closley on how to move with the beat.
Not saying there are no white ppl with a beat but trust me on this that beat they think they have is learned not natural.
omg wtf are you serious? i have to read what you said again because i still dont believe you made such an insulting statement. this is the most racist comment said yet. yeah im white and im insulted. f**k off racist.

Heh I hate to break it to you folks but these "race" posts never die, even if you want it to. If it did, the black posters would scream "cover-up". Lord forbid some white poster says something about black ppl good or bad on a forum. I've seen the same shit happen on hiphop forums and it's nothing more than ppl throwin around ideals and opinions.

Lady J,

Agreed. I wonder at what age people are most furtile for developing 'musical' senses though? Im sure it must very early on. Id be interested to see what research has been conducted in this area.

Wouldnt want my daughter to grow up not knowing how to shake booty.

it's all about climate :) there's icy tower of a 'soul' that i love in scandinavian and north european music.
