*Fixed* Strangeness with MrRay73 in FL Studio

After reading the Rhodes sampling thread I downloaded MrRay73. In FL5 output of MrRay is muted for the first half measure during playback. EnergyXT and Tracktion don't appear to have that problem with MrRay. If I load MrRay in a Ext VST instance in FL it doesn't have that problem. MrTramp causes the same behavior.

I have several work arounds so it's not a problem. I'm just curious. Does anybody know what causes this and why loading it in an Ext VST instance fixes it?

YES!!!! I get exactly the same thing in FLStudio 5.02!! I thought it was just me - it was driving me crazy! Rhett: can you explain a little more about using Ext VST as I'd like to fix this as Mr.Ray is such a great plugin.

Cheers

You need the VST version of energyXT installed in you plugins folder. It is availabe at xt-hq.com. In FL scan for new plugins. Add ENERGYXT as a channel. Open the ENERGYXT wrapper. The first time you run it you need to configure energyXT. See the Beginer's Guide which is available in the energyXt forum here. From the main screen in energyXT right click and select MrRay73 from the VST menu. Close the energyXt window. Now treat the ENERGYXT channel as you would any other generator in FL. Playback of the patterns from the playlist should work fine. Note, the demo of energyXt will allow you to save projects but not open them. I'm not a registered user of energyXT so I haven't been able to test opening a FL project with an energyXt VST instance in it.

One FL only solution is to have the playlist start on the second measure. A second solution is to render the output of MrRay to a wave or mp3, mute the VST instance, and add the resulting file as an audio track, effectively "freezing" it.

I haven't sent this bug to any of the delopers. I imagine they've already heard of it. We can't be the only two. :hihi:

Really? I use a MrRay (and MrTramp) a lot in FL Studio without problems. Just updated to version 5.02c but no problems before that either (using version 5.02).

I'm on 5.02 with ASIO4All and built in sound. Changing audio drivers doesn't make a differnce for me.

Well I'm just glad it works fine here I guess :D

Thanx Rhett, I'll give that a go when I get home. I had already tried starting the playlist on the 2nd measure. It frustrated me having to do that though, so I never kept at it. Haven't tried a different driver, but I wouldn't want to mess with what works now just for the sake of one VST (even if it is as awesome as Mr. Ray!).

Half your luck, Programentalist! :)

I finally emailed Guido, the developer. He responded with this, which did the trick! Under the audio settings uncheck "reset plugins on transport".

---------
Yes, FL Studio tends to reset all plugins when you hit play, and MrRay mutes
its audio for about 1 second when it begins running.
Just take a look at the FL settings, you will find something kinda "Reset
plugins upon playback start".. or something like that. Uncheck that option.

Cheers,
Guido.
