short reviews of my top 10:

1. Glooper - DiscoMission - I suppose it's the vocals that mostly make this track. I much prefer female vocals and these kicks arse (even if they are lifted of a sample CD?). The track is quite groovy as well.

2. You tm- Feedback and Oscillate Catchy chorus, well recorded, good production. Not my favorite genre but one of the most "faultless" songs this month. Well done.

3. Ugo - Bonfire As far as "music I wanna dance to goes" this is the best track for me. Very well produced, slamming, catchy...everything you need in a dance track. Unfortunately, I would have liked a bit more variation, but it's still a killer track.

4. warbug - DOA Sounds like you sampled the chorus from an old reggae album? Nevertheless, great track, ragga (I think). The old vocals and some credible (which is rare around here) MC'ing really lifts this track above the crowd. And it's very danceable.....if you can keep up that is. :hihi:

5. knoob - fall apart - ok, it's a Robert Miles rip off but who cares. It's very catchy a makes me wanna dance for sure.

6. Bitshift - Controversy Again, not really my thing, but it's well done. Quite danceable and vocal is well sung and catchy.

7. guitarjeff - Catch The Buzz - without listening again, I'll have to give you the same Review as Bitshift. It's well done for sure. I do remember that.

8. Diek - Respect I could come up with plenty of reasons why this shouldn't be on top 10. The vocals are poorly recorded and some of the instruments sound very GM-ish. Despite all that, I think it's a great song and it's so refreshing to hear reggae around here.

9. Bastien - Nacht Got a bit of the same vibe as Ugo's track. Compared to that track it's got more variation but overall it's not as smooth as Ugo's track and some of the sounds are not as good as they could be.

10. Scamme - It's All Synthetic Not many trance, whether it be Euro, Goa or Psy this month. A bit of a shame :( I miss some more filter sweeps in here but overall it's got some good arpeggios, bass and drums.

Thanks for your voting. The problem with the song is that's overlimited in the mastering, as pointed Barnadine. There are some coding issues also. This song was so absorbing for me that I was no patient to hear with fresh ears. I realized about when I relistened the pre-master version  but was too late.

And thanks to you, Vurt. Made me happy

Thanks for the reviews guys :D

Robert Miles !? Never heard of him, really... i'll check it out....

:) Glad my mashup went over better this time - although Gordon hasn't weighed in yet... he could be contacting his lawyer. I think I was a more heavy-handed with his song than Techbot's, but I had trouble deciphering its time sig, tempo and key.

The other material was from Sun Electric, Spongebob Squarepants, School of Rock, a 'Books on Tape' presentation on Shakespeare and an old cheapo Batman kiddie record. Plus there's a bunch of beats and stuff (I think mostly Garageband loops). The bass is BuzZer through Crunch. All done in Live 5. 8)

oh no, i missed the deadline... feck.
aka rktic. demoscener (Farbrausch, Holon, MFX, Still), sound designer, ux-dude, sth @AudioRealism, human synthesizer—not necessarily in that order.

every one of these tracks instantly grabbed me. these all kick so much ass that i kept changing the order. the top 5 was especially difficult to pick but, being that the theme was dance, i decided on the top 5's order by which tracks made me want to move the most.

...and so, the Ugo Booty Shaker award goes too...

1. warbug - DOA
2. scuzzphut - screamer
3. Techbot - Ballam de nana Haydum De
4. knockman - harimogura
5. Barnadine - A Man of Grace
6. bitshift - Controversy
7. You™ - Feedback and Oscillate (Recursion Mix)
8. herodotus - Frogs Don't Dance
9. Shuzhen - Epic Shapes Elapse
10. Katanaman - DANCE WITH MOI

i had an honorable mention list going but it just kept getting larger and larger. there were so many great tracks entered. so i figured perhaps it would be best to just say that this month was yet another example of how incredibly talented and creative this community is. im always amazed by the quality and the variety of music in the comps and in the cafe in general.

Your track reminds me of "children" and "fable". I'm sure you recognise them when you hear them. I'm suprised he's not an influence though.
and thanks for the thumbs up btw. :)

interesting to see how each of us votes. Very different opinions and tastes, it seems. i must say it was very difficult to vote. There were a lot of good - well produced - tracks perfectly fitting the theme... i had to make priorities.

Well done everyone.

Post

i'm no pro by any means. i just have fun making music and can't really judge at a professional level. just my personal opinions, that's all.

here's some other reviews:

damstraversaz-pepe va au bal-still not able to open this file.. am i doing something wrong here? pm me if you see this.

patrick9-konversation-ok i'm bobbing. foot tapping. not bad, not bad at all. but the ending is too sudden. (look who's talking-i'm the king of fade away :P ) i like it.

kaos axiom-dude.. i still can't see the link!!! can you pm me?

astanine-halothane-very happy and uplifting tunage. i can't dance to this myself. an excellent representation of its genre. not necessarily the type of sound i would listen to but i admire your skills. :)

wilkoryte-slowdance-lots of feeling. i'm the type of guy that would take advantage of this song and grab my girl's ass. very nicely done. i should name myself assman or something. hehe. sounds excellent and very suitable for my plans.

pheeleep-make music for fun-yes!!! thank you. i think this would definitely be great for a s&m club or something. no offense man!!! on the contrary it's a compliment. great-twisted-slow but deadly. :D

gregjazz-all i want to do is dance-hmmm. i don't know about this man. you're obviously very talented, the mix is there, the melody is there, the voice is there. but i can't dance to this man. it's just the type of music that i wouldn't listen to. just personal opinion.

khepira-dance for oil-it's building up!!! it's coming!!! it's coming!!! you faked it. kinda anticlimactic. i wanted it to explode man!! overall excellent sounding to my ears. but i definitely wanted a bit more action in this.

respirator-waltz-odd notes here and there. i like it. :D makes me wanna get high. hehe. depressed. i can see a long dark haired girl about to lose it dancing with her head down and hiding her face. i can't dance to it but i certainly appreciate the sound of it. i would definitely recommend building on this with vocals. of course a bit longer too. maybe radioheadish vocals?

vurt-my man :D holy shit man!!! richard james is gonna cry "mommy!!!".. rubber johnny is gonna morph into a giant squirrel and do the greek dance with the handkerchief. then he's gonna approach me. i'm gonna think he wants me to join him. but he's just gonna bite my head off. i fuckin love this man!!! you're bound to be a classic. i love you man!! this piece just goes to show me how much i need to practice to create my own genre like you. hehe. listened to this like three times in a row already. 2 minutes doesn't cut it.

aieda cin-forrage-excellent mix, great sounds. this needs to be played before things get hot and the club is packed. not quite dance in my opinion. maybe up the bpm a little?

ugo-bonfire-good mix of harsh and soft sounds. definitely danceable. beautiful...

rsmus7-poddies dance-hmmm. not my cup of tea but obviously you're a pro. it's nothing against you, it's just the type of sounds used. i just can't dance to this. but to tell you the truth i would pay you to learn how to produce. :D

j_t-the return of fonk'n'stein-definite funk. bobbing my head. the brass is kind of a turn of but i like the headbutting of the brass and the guitar. the guitar definitely wins. :D yes i will put on my pimp shirt and dance. :P i like the vocal bits a lot; although very short.

beardedone-spinner fall-another twisted mofo in the house. hehe. i like this. holy shit!!! i'm not very technical in terms of music and all but you got me when the brasilian (?) beat came in. i'm seriously considering quitting music even as a hobby. this is very discouraging. :( i wanna be able to do stuff like this. heavy creativity.

jaidy-zisorzat-excellent composition/arrangement. not necessarily my cup of tea but i think i might dance to this. i just have to figure out how to first.

herodotus-frogs don't dance-hey i lived in canada and i saw them dance. :P i like the sounds and the melody a lot. i'm not canadian so i shall dance. yes!! ballet.

ixox-un tout dernier tango-i love this man. what is this sam trumpet and kirk hunter violin. i want those. sounds very realistic. i heard your gypsy competition entry that you composed a while ago. i'm a gypsy freak (being turkish and all) i absolutely love this. maybe you could do a music cafe version of this (longer :D) with accordion and stuff as well. lots of feeling. passion for music screaming through the softness of the tune.

freeztar-so danco samba-i don't see the samba in this except the name and where you actually say samba. but like i said i'm no pro. maybe it is and i don't know. this definitely ain't gonna make me sweat. but i like the song in general.

mchlwlsn-seeker-i feel at home :D .. i love the beats but maybe you could build on the melody a little. it's too much of the same. can i make something better? no... dancing to this depends on my mood.

you™-feedback and oscillate-i feel alive!!! my personality doesn't allow me to dance to this but this is definitely top class. vocals are red hot chili peppers/beck hybrid imo. great stuff but no dance. my wife will like this a lot though. so i'll save this and force it down her ears :D

kovacs-what i want to do-the vocals are too much in front. maybe it's my headphones. maybe lower the vocals and add some effects to it. sounds to dry and it contrasts too much with the tune. i'm no expert in any of this either. just telling what i hear. good tune but minus points for the vocal situation. maybe put it up in music cafe after fixing it. this being your first vocal song i think you were a bit cautious. i think you have great potential but you have to let go and be a little crazy. ;)

andy-summer on the sea-this makes me very happy! a little latin american influence i'm smelling. it's in disquise though. i don't know if i would dance to this but it definitely cheers me right up.

barnadine-a man of honor-one word... beautiful. you totally stabbed me right in the heart with the accordion. hard to describe feeling. you definitely are a man of grace.

mg505-can't listen. no download. :( will try again later.

i'm taking a break. more to come. will also post this to the reviews thread. i'm not sure if people follow it here or there. i'll save wopelka some time. :)

:hyper: i can't believe i even got votes from people. thank you guys so much. also thank you for the kind review. i know it's a crappy mix and all but it was just from the heart. i have so much in me but i just can't put it down into a song. i lack the knowledge for the most part. but you people at kvr have been so helpful in my learning. i'm 28 years old and have no goals of becoming a pro musician. you guys are all kings and queens in my eyes. i still have a lot to learn from all of you. again thank you, thank you, thank you. hopefully in the future i'll make more enjoyable songs. from the looks of it i'm going to dig my own roots a little and bring out the gypsy in me for a while. ;) wopelka, vurt and farlukar: you guys are too kind to put me in top ten. i'm truly honored. to all the reviewers: thank you for taking the time to write stuff about our music. you guys are all friggin' awesome.
