At the Lowlands 2003 festival I heard an incredible jungle track (in the Groovetube Tent, played by a rasta DJ) and I'm still wondering what it was... I just got some free legal DL credits so I'd like to DL some jungle. Suggestions?

Maybe it was Bong Ra? He was there in 2003 and having heard him at the Valkhof last tuesday, he must have torn up the place.

It was much more reggae-like than, say, Photek, Roni Size, Amon Tobin, LTJ Bukem...haydxn wrote:... isn't that called DnB nowadays??

No, I tried the link you posted some time ago, but I'm talking about a song from a DJ set. Anyway, thanks for the suggestion, I didn't know Bong Ra 'till you posted about him.tetraplan wrote:Maybe it was Bong Ra?

its on a compilation cd called jungle mania 3.. Id say its fairly rare. I was a huge jungle freak when i was in early highschool (now Im 24) so i pretty much bought everything i saw! But if you are gettin' back into the old raga jungle sound just hunt around in secondhand shops. you might find a few compilations

See if you can grab hold of any old Mickey Finn mix tapes/CD's (I used to have loads - lost 'em in a house move) from back when L-Double & Deadly D etc. were making dub plates for him.
I would love to get hold of some of those old classics.

Slightly OT - does anyone remember a DnB/jungle track from the 90s where this MC type counted off the letters of a word (i forget the word
).
the s..the t...the o the a the i... you get the picture.
It *might* have had the Quincy theme in it, but then that might have been the Dj...
Thanky!

on topic, when I first listened to Goldie's TIMELESS in 1995 i was realy blown away, if indeed it counts as jungle (?)

Some of the tapes I used to have are on this site, Micky Finn, Ratpack, Ratty etc. - real old school stuff, i'm tempted to try em myself (nostalgia).

Venetian Snares 'Hand Throw'. Best ragga/jungle track ever. Though the last half is maybe a little OTT for some folks.

'Go with the flow' by Criminal Minds a pre-cursor to Jungle using sublime roots bass lines at like 80BPM along with the 160 drum beats c.1991.

"rock the funky beat". On Aphrodites label... maybe 1997
I was never a huge Jungle fan.... but as far as the "jump-up style"... Aphrodite and Mickey Finn made the best track in my opinion.
I remember the winter music conference when that track came out...... amazing
