Question about UAD-1 HW power

I don't have anywhere to try one of these out. I'm considering the full meal version of this.
Can anyone give me some picture about how much processing power is on that card, in terms of simultaneous plugins? I know it's hard to express since all the plugs have different processing demands, but have owners of UAD-1 felt like the card is powerful enough to give you a fair number of simultaneous tracks for mixing?
Thanks,
Dave

Go to:
http://www.uaudio.com/products/software ... specs.html
Scroll down to the bottom of the page.
The chart will show you the exact number of each plug you can run on each card.
I am happy with 1 card.
Most people will agree that 2 cards will cover most demands.

Ignor what you heard.
There is really no noticeable CPU hit unless you start to max out the UAD-1 DSP chip.
By the way you get a UAD CPU meter that shows the number of UAD plugs running and the UAD DSP-CPU load.
As long as you are below 90% on the DSP there is no noticeable CPU hit regardless of how many plugs you run.

CPU hit? Almost non-existant. I just did a test in Chainer with 10 x LA2A compressors.
- Chainer empty: 0.1% CPU usage
- Chainer loaded with 10 x LA2A's: 3.8% CPU usage
This is on an Athlon 64-3500+ w/4GB of RAM. Your mileage may very, but it's pretty negligible.

Well, none that I've encountered, and that's with 2 x Powercore Element cards as well. Pretty solid, works as advertised. I've never had any of the plugins crash on me, and that's with heavy usage and 40+ tracks in Cubase SX.

CPU load in my experience is very low, as already stated but I found you need to hit the 'sweet spot' for audiocard buffers just to be sure. If I run any other latency thats a touch lower or higher than the 6-7ms it seems to use a touch more CPU - if I run really high latency (40ms +) then it uses loads, much less than if I run it really low (1-2ms)
This is explained in the manual and is due to having to store more data to send to the UAD-1 or something.
Well worth the money the UAD-1 IMO.

The UAD-1 is the best investment I've made. When I bought my first, I still used some of my other VST plugs - but only if the card was maxed out. Now that I have two, I can't justify using anything else. Maybe the occasional Ohm Force or Voxengo plug.
Seriously. The compressors are the best you'll ever use. The Pultec and Cambridge EQ's are phenomenal and the Plate 140 will make all of your other software verbs sound like shit. Seriously.
The low CPU hit is just the icing. It's all about the sound. And ease of use.

Thanks for the replies. It looks like, in contrast to Creamware, UAD put some serious silicon on their card.
With all the software and the general quality, it looks like a good investment, even for $1200, since it's like getting a second computer, really (though only for audio processing), in addition to the plugs.
I'm assuming there are no problems running heavy CPU usage with other plugins while simultaneously using the UAD-1?
