When i browse samples in Sound Forge any sample i put the cursor on (or click on) , will play. This is a quick and easy way of auditioning samples.

Is there a small stand alone program that can playback wav's quickly when browsing through folders? It would be best if it worked similar to SF's browser.

Tracker V3 is good for this, more a generic file explorer but the preview option makes it great for sample auditioning. Just click on a file and it plays.

Also check out Loop Horse, specialised sample previewer/organiser. Coming along nicely.

Loop Horse is indeed very nice, and does a lot of useful things, but I think it supports only 16/44,1 files. Does anyone know of a utility that supports 24/96 files as well? Or is this a feature that will be implemented in Loop Horse in the near future?

Loop horse can play 23 bit files if your hardware supports them... I think it plays 32bit files ok regardless of hardware. Still needs some work in these areas but getting there...

Yellow Tools has a new wav file organizer (with a heap of bells & whistles which you may not want/need) called INDEPENDENCE, which looks really cool but I don't know much about it.

only had a quick look but it looks more like a fully blown sampleplayer than a file organiser ???

for auditioning stuff outside my sequencer etc im another one who uses tracker V3 BTW ...

Damn, I've been looking for a replacement for windows explorer, tracker v3 is great, odd how I never saw it on any of the freeware sites. Thanks!

Tracker V3 seems to do the trick. I'm testing it for a few days. I like the fact that it doesn't install heaps of files along with it.

Sonic Explorer works just like Windows Explorer except it plays and displays each WAV file when highlighted. Controls are there to repeat and select sections of the audio file. Very handy.

Check the ProXL website.

Is there a good (windows) wav browser around?
