Thanks for commenting on my track BTW. :)

not a full listing yet, but some thoughts:
[edit]well, it turned into a full listing while typing it and listening to some songs a few times more :)[/edit]

start with by the sea, because of the beginning/ending this one should not sit in the middle of the album, and it shows a lot of the stuff that is on the album, almost orchestral pad-stuff, bleepy synths, great beats.
and i think warped should be the last song (it's beginning is suprising, so it really gets the listener back into listening, and then that cello kicks in, what a great way to end an album :)).

spiral in sleep would make a good second song, it's one of those "i'm a big red "cillout-mode ON" button" songs, and this album is quite a chilly one 8)

song number 3?
well, piggy in the middle maybe, something that works nice as an intro for track 4, which should be big yellow pinder.
imo the best track of them all, so it should be near the beginning, but not one of the very first songs, take the listener with you, and when he really got into your world you play your best song ;)

create a quient moment then, so put mango fandango right behind it, then 25, then frost on the hills...

and then it's time for something fast again, dark july is great to get them out of ultra-chillout mode, and keep up the tempo for a while, shapes would make for a good follow-up then.

then peace again, orbeting, hypnotic stuff, so an aftermath right behind it simply fits.

and now only relative tranquility is left, would make a great last song as well, but i think having the rather noisy beginning of warped right behind this epic would be quite interesting.

so, let's see the listing uncommented:

01. by the sea
02. spiral in sleep
03. piggy in the middle
04. big yellow pinder
05. mango fandango
06. 25
07. frost on the hills
08. dark july
09. shapes
10. orbeting
11. aftermath
12. relative tranquility
13. warped

oh and, i really should have checked your music earlier, i qill definatelys keep all these tracks, what a great album this is, in any order, but i think mine would work quite well

Can I put my order for a CD in now? ;)

BTW.. did you ever finish that song with that simple acoustic guitar chord sequence that I did for you?

Ben

So here's my best effort:

I dropped piggy in the middle and orb e ting, I just didn't think they fit in well with the set.

The tunes are all good, and I really like the one with dekky. Some of your synth hooks are really good. But the problems as I see them once arranged is that a)several tunes are very similar, especially the intros/outros, and b) the tempo and dynamic ranges are fairly constant, there's no barnstormer to break up the mix. Listening all together, they all started to become a little indistinct.

Not a criticism of your music so much as you might need to remove some tracks that are similar and a write a few more that throw the listener off a bit.

Here's a trick for track arrangement. Take the first and last 15 seconds of each track and create a new mp3/wav from them, then arrange them in order and listen closely to how they open and how they lead into one another. Think of a general listener's response, say someone previewing tracks in a shop. If the endings and beginnings are all indistinct from one other, you start losing the listener. Even if the tracks are collected as a string of singles rather than thematically linked, you still want the flow/contrast/variation you might use in an extended piece.

As I was listening, I wondered if you've ever listened to Styrofoam on the Morr Music label? I hear similarities in style. Nothing overt, but if you haven't heard any Styrofoam stuff, maybe check it out, I think it would give you some good ideas on developing your style. New tricks for the bag, etc.

Hope that was somewhat useful.

Cheers,
Steve
