Help me find the perfect host

I should of asked this a long time ago when Logic was no longer being developed for PC but I thought that I would be ok for a few more years but things have proved otherwise.
As an ex-Logic user I'm looking for something with ease of use, clear non-cryptic menus, cross platform because I'm swithing to Mac soon but I might not decide to use Logic X, and it must have easy automation becuase how Steinberg does it makes me want to puke.
I've used Cubase SX 3 and Nuendo 3 and after trying them out with my Friends help I decided they are not for me becuase of the cluttered UI.
I'm open to any ideas.

I'd recommend Live, everything you mentioned seems to fit Live to a T
And if you ever do go back to Logic, it would still be really useful environment that you could rewire to Logic.

I'm trying to think what is cross platform and all I'm coming up with is Cubase, Traktion, and Live. Are there any others?

Protools is cross platform now. It has some similarities to traktion and automation is pretty easy. It's not my cup of tea though as it is just about the most linear host out there.

Well, Tracktion and Live both have uncluttered UIs, and I guess with Protools is one of the cross platform choices. Both Live and Traktion give you two licenses so you can use them on both Mac and PC. Traktion's the cheapest by a long shot at $150. Live is still a great value IMO at $400. Pro Tools M-Powered is $350 but you are locked into M-audio gear.CorrosiveGod wrote: I've used Cubase SX 3 and Nuendo 3 and after trying them out with my Friends help I decided they are not for me becuase of the cluttered UI.

I'm trying out Live right now, I'll give Traktion 2 a shot after I figure out Live.

This guy is the closest you're ever going to get to a perfect host. Beyond that, you'll just have to make do. If you're coming from Logic, I doubt Live will be what you're after, given that MIDI editing isn't as central to the design.
From what I know of former Logic users, the only thing that'll make you happy is Logic. Not x-platform, but such is life.

MIDI isn't that important at the moment becuase I don't use any outboard instruments. I plan to use a few outboard instruments but MIDI out should be good enough.shamann wrote:

Also, cross platform is something that is needed becuase in the future I plan to have both a PC and Mac in my studio, and I would like the same host to run on both of them.
