easy. they dont care. :(

all I can say is.. perhaps be thankful it wasnt for a much more expensive purchase.. :(

sadly though wouldnt it cost more money to take them to court win or lose than it would be to just take the hit?

If anyone can find ANY info on the magix page, that eversions need internet to be ACTIVATED, let me know, at least that way I know I'm wrong.
Do it quickly before your time limit to cancel with your credit card company runs out.

the BBB can't DO anything for you but register your complaint. And I doubt that they can do that since magix is HQ'ed in germany and is not a registered member of the BBB.

If you want results, either invoke a chargeback, or wait for a headshot like Bones said.

Tell me WHERE on that site it says you need an internet connection to ACTIVATE the program.
I once bought Magix Studio, I think version 5. It solved a lot of my audio problems and was really instrumental in getting me back into making music. Then I upgraded to version 6, which added a VST host, but still had a lot of the annoyances of the original version (The audio program is excellent, but the midi program can be a pain, and the integration is horrible.)
Well, I kept upgrading, and the last one I bought ("2005") didn't support 24bit/96kHz recording, it still didn't integrate audio and midi (and Midi studio still had only 16/44.1 audio!), and they added some kind of cd-check copy protection. By now I'd already dabbled in using Fruity Loops for midi (which I'm blissfully happy with) and Audition for audio (likewise, could not be happier).

That's the end for Magix and their $80 annual upgrades. You know what the biggest influence was on this? The harsh, hostile attitude of the support folks when I asked about 24 bit recording.

This program is supposed to be the gateway drug that gets me excited about Samplitude, but instead, it just gave me a taste of the company, enough to know that I never, ever want to deal with them again.

yeah i couldn't see it anywhere either. definitely ask for a chargeback. the instructions are very misleading. the fact is the sent you a product you can't use because they didn't tell you all the details of the product correctly. so basically it's broken. ask for a chargeback from your bank. chances are they'll just give you a provisional credit right away and eat the cost of it. if magix happens to prove that you bought it and all that crap. the thing is still broken, they can't deny that.. because they failed to tell you it wouldn't work on a noninternet machine. you could then tease them and tell them to send you a new one that works. they are at fault here i believe since i've been looking at the sight and can't see shit about noninternet machnines. they should have an warning or disclosure or something. or just close your bank account as soon as you get the provisional credit and go open a new account at another bank. then the bank will definitely forget about it and take the loss. good luck man. that pissed me off so much. let's do a mass complaint bombardment.

should we write a common letter and mail it separately or should each of us write his/her own?

i don't understand why you haven't done a chargeback yet, if that is an option. no offense, but waiting for them to respond in a satisfactory manner is pointless. don't waste your time until it's too late, you really should do it now. i don't know if now that they are tipped that you plan to contact mastercard will make it more difficult for you, as they may send the 'proof' that he referenced in order to preempt you.
i don't know how it works, but is that a possibility?
just do it, man.
and if they complain, well, you have a damn good reason; their position is indefensible, imho, and they won't be able to do anything about it.

quick, chargeback!
resistors are futile you will be simulated

someone should mail magix a link to this thread so that they can see how their marketing strategies work out on real customers...
