So you downloaded it on your lappy while visiting the USA. And you want to install it on your desktop which is (presumably) on top or your desk in Australia.

How did you discover it needs an internet connection then?

Did you try installing it on your lappy..?

If so, isn't that in breach of the license..? (Assuming the software can only be installed on one machine).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not having a go or anything, just curious.

And besides, it would appear you CAN activate it according to meroveus...

There is an option to activate the app by fax/post. :)

Further down, there is this blurb "If your PC is not connected to the Internet, please contact MAGIX support."

Seems you should be discussing this with support, not sales.
I hate to hear about companies that rip-off their customers and don't give after sales service, but in this instance, I don't think you've got a case. But then I'm no lawyer.

Good luck with it anyway.

Not providing for offline activation sucks.

But then C/R copy protection sucks anyhow. The only things I have right now that use it are ST2LE, GPO, Tassman4, Live-Styler, and one piece of non-music software, and in these cases there just wasn't an acceptable substitute that didn't use C/R.

I'd NEVER settle for it in critical software (like a host - sorry Mackie, Ableton & Magix).

the company has lost $40 probably 40 times over from the negative pr on this thread.

i would email the thread to them and ask whether all this bad PR was worth keeping hold of your $40 ...

i will certainly also warn others of this pathetic company policy and deceptive software

Whoa! Magix Audio Studio. That's a new one, and only $40. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Ordered.

I wouldn´t recommend Magix anymore like I did some years before. I worked with different versions of the Music Studio for many years and with the Music Maker for a short time. These aren´t bad programs and the VFM is very good. BUT their support is very bad. And often you have to wait for ever for getting a patch that resolves the bugs of these programs. In these cases you have to buy the new program versions for hopefully getting a bug-free one. But normally these new versions have new bugs and the game starts again ...

I think there are a lot of people over on the Steinberg forums that think that paragraph is about them...

The PDF doesn't say the machine you install it on has to be connected to the net, not at all. It only says so in the paragraph about reactivation.

Now, this *could* be understood in a way that one HAS to have an internet connection, but it's anything but clear to me.

Pretty dodgy...
