In Newfoundland (Canada) there is a town called Dildo and they very much speak english...

Two restaurant names I enjoy here in Toronto are the Hung Long and Som Porn, the latter is located next door to an adult video store.

There's a football stadium in Switzerland (or is it Austria?) called "Wankdorf" - I think the team that plays there are called "Young Boys"...

In English it's a fish. In French, that fish is called poisson. In English, that poisson looks a lot like poison. In German, poison is gift.

So: if someone gives me a gift fish, is it a poison poisson?

... Think I'll have beef for dinner.

something like crash yourselves? :)
But I cheated...
And I learned russian in school... not like I remember something... :)

On the topic... I don't know if it counts, but the shaking head signs - left/right and up/down in my country means the opposite compared to the rest of the world.

And... sorry... no insult but putte sounds like "pussy". :?

And if you wander - that's in Bulgaria - the land of Absurds. With capital "A".

The Finnish for Donald Duck is Akoowanker
Well Aku Ankka might possibly be pronounced so it sounds like Akoo Wankah, but really not quite...

But yes, pussi is one word for bag (muovipussi is plastic bag), and "pusipusi, rakas" translates to "kiss kiss my love".

There's a crater on the Moon called Hell, and another named Beer -- from Hades to Heaven, in effect. Both craters were named to honor astronomers of the olden dayes, the former Slovak and the latter German. [Hell also believed Mesmerism was for real; ah well, can't win 'em all. :-( ]

Surely eveyone's heard of the bright red star in Orion named Betelgeuse -- some movie spelled it phonetically and used that as its title. Its proper name is a distorted version of a medieval Arabic name for that star, meaning "Armpit of the Mighty One" -- or shoulder if you prefer. (Many stars have names that were originally Arabic, but which have suffered badly in translation.)

A couple counties north of where I live there's a very small town whose name is pronounced "Bumpus" but is actually spelled Bumpass. Which ties in with the disco dispute.

Can someone from Iceland please confirm that "tussa" is a bad word? I had a summer job once at "Tussa Kraft" which is a small power plant, and an Icelandic bloke laughed really hard because he claimed it means pussy juice in Icelandic.
"Kraft" does mean both power and juice (well... more like stock) in Norwegian as well, but Tussa is a place and not a female reproductive organ...

:-P Cypher, it's not much of a choice but... I'm guessing you've never had to clean a stable.

Almost forgot -- on the Eastern Shores of Virginia (a peninsula, BTW) can be found the town of Onancock. Biblical scholars will already know what Onan is famous for. Others may refer to Wikipedia for the sordid details.
