I'm seeing some decent deals on UAD-1's on eBay.

As far as license issues, is it easy to use a card from a previous user? Is the SW licensed simply to the card or is there a PC generated challenge one has to deal with as well?

Really easy to transfer the owner informs UAD that they have sold the card and their details are removed. You then register the card in your name as if its new.

You have an account on the UA website which holds a database of all the cards you own and which plugs are attached to them. You download a .reg file from the site to allow your installed cards see which plugs you own and can then run them. When you buy a new plug UA adds this to your account and you can download a new .reg file allowing you to use the new plug.

When you want to sell a card (and plugs) the owner simply emails UA and says I want to transfer xxxxx card to blah
@blah.com and also the authorisations for plugin1 plugin2 etc.

You cannot transfer plugins between users though, only when attached to a card.
