Speaking of routing MIDI from a VSTi, Live has this ability now, just added in version 5. Not a moment too soon looks like.

Blast. I can't afford to upgrade to 5. Wasn't able to make this work in betas, for that matter. Too bad.

I'm not using ChordSpace, but I've got it working just fine in Live 5.0.1.
How is that? I cannot get it to work in Live 5.
Neither can I. And I just submitted a bug. Info on setting it up correctly would be appreciated!

*edit* Duh, OK, I should learn to read:

'it' being VSTi midi out support. I also have gotten this to work, just not with Chordspace. So my bug is valid, I guess.

It doesn't show up in Cubase SE either sadly...I'm able to pick it as a VSTi, but when I try and select it in a midi channel it doesn't show in the list.

Post

that's a great idea.

i tried the beta in FLS without success.

this is how i tried:
- insert ChS as a FX in a mixer channel
- route a generator to this mixer channel

could someone help me? Beardedone or normal?

Post

I spent some hours mesmerized with this in FL5 (latest demo - 5.0.2c) before trying it out with my usual hosts.

Here's the procedure:

- Load up Chordspace, let's say as an effect in a mixer channel

- from the dropdown menu below the icon on the left top, choose "show MIDI output" and choose a suitable output port, let's say 2

- load up an instrument, and assign its input (which is shown by default) port to the same, 2 in this case

- press one of those funky hexagram symbols in Chordspace and it outputs a note

- choose some arpeggio settings, such as UP, in Chordspace's lower right corner

- choose a speed for the arpeggio, say 1/4

- choose a root note in the big circle in the middle

- choose a chord from the hexagrams, just click on one and keep the mouse button pushed

... and you should hear an arpeggio emerging

And remember to check out the time every now and then, if you have any scheduled activities in the next couple of hours :)

This thing rocks. For me, the most useful plugin this year. And Nuffink is just getting started :D

Sorry, I'm not knocking SE at all, I've no prejudice against plugs made with it all. It was more a self-depreciating jibe saying I don't see how something this cool/complex could be made with SE, yet another example that puts my meagre creations to shame. :)

Synthmaker is my toy of choice at the moment though as nuffink says, it's midi side needs developing.

This thing looks great! I'd love to use it in any way I like, just like is says at the bottom of the short description, but... where can I get it? There's no download link to be found :help:

Not released yet Paulie. Still in BETA. That's why there's no download link yet.

Hmm, but seems everybody already got their hands on it... Ok, I'll PM nuffink and ask if he wouldn't mind one more beta-tester. Thanks

This looks fascinating! Quick question for any beta testers - will ChordSpace generate a chord based on an incoming MIDI note or do you need to push the button manually? I was wondering if it was possible to chain two instances of Chordspace together so that the first one played a very slow arpeggio and the second one generated chords based on the notes coming out from the first one.

Can't wait for this to get out of beta :)

Gregjazz wrote:Looks good. Appears that you have your jazz theory down, too (noticing the triangle symbols for major 7th chord). Good job! I'd be interested in learning how you sort the chords, though. I notice in the I chord section you have an A7 -- so it appears that you're including tritone subs, correct?
The chords are arranged as follows...

Image

The I group contains
the tonic 7th and 6th
the secondary dominant of IV
the (tritone)substitute dominant of IV
two chords obtained by Modal Interchange from the parallel minor.

The V group contains
the dominant 7th
the sus4 7th
the (tritone)substitute dominant of I
a minor chord from MI

You get the idea so I'll use some notation from now on

The ii group contains
the ii minor
the sec V/V
the subst V/V
an MI major 7th
an MI minor flat 5

The vi group contains
the vi minor
the sec V/ii
the subst V/ii
an MI major 7th
an MI minor flat 5

The iii group contains
the iii minor
the sec V/vi
the subst V/vi
an MI major 7th

The vii group contains
the vii minor flat 5
the sec V/iii
an MI major 7th

The IV group contains
the IV major 7th
a Special Function Dominant*
an MI minor
an MI minor flat 5

They are arranged so that the natural progression (5ths down) is clockwise.

*Special Function is what theorists call a chord which doesn't fit the theory but sounds good anyway.

Now with improved MIDI jitter!

An excellent concept!! I would love to play this at full screen resolution through my laptop's touch pad.

I'm no musical theorists by any stretch of my humble imagination, so by way of suggestions;

Once a chord is played could a selection of the other hexagons light-up yellow to recommend chords for the next progression.

Additionally, replace all that "Bbsus, Bb7, Eb" nonsense with images of cats & dogs etc, and it becomes an instant tool for young children to make their own music with. Whatsmore by limiting user input to just those highlighted hexagons, parents will never have to endure those constant out-of tune shrieks again :-)

Once again, top marks !!

Post

Hey cool... now my creativity won't be at risk... no need to learn theory anymore!

This thing looks prime to make quite a splash around here... I'm looking forward to it.

Something genuinely new and imaginative, hearty congratulations

If it is released, please start another thread or put the announcement in the news section of KvR.
This thread gets longer and longer and for now I will stop watching this topic.
But anyway, great idea for a plugin !
