OK...I know I'm missing something incredible simple here because nowhere on any forum or manual can I find this...Using a midi keyboard connected with a TASCAM 428 interface...

First, I record midi tracks in Nuendo (long time Nuendo user, FL Studio 5 newbie), those work fine...then I select FL5 from the VSTi Instrument panel...and set my tracks' midi out as FL-VSTi...I pick an instrumwent in FL and slect that channel...
Then when I play from the Nuendo host, I can hear the preroll click tracks ofd FL, but no instrument...although other VSTi's will play fine.
I feel it's something to do with the VSTi Audio Output mapping setting, but I've tried every variation I can think of.

I know...I know...it's something simple I'm missing..but I've tried every combination in Nuendo and FL of MIDI ins' & outs, audio ins/outs..even the ridiculous was given a try.

What am I missing?????
Nuendo 1.53 (yes it's old); TASCAM 428 controller; FL Studio 5, and a slew of plugins...

I recently tried to assist with something similar(mainly a rewire problem), here it is copied and pasted:

First I created a project and enabled rewire for FL

http://www.bas.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/enable.jpg

Started FL, and this panel should appear

http://www.bas.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/rewire.jpg

Clicking on the fruit think opens the FL interface.

From there the enabled tracks should show

http://www.bas.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/tracks.jpg

Open the Mixer (the FX button on the top)

http://www.bas.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/mixer.jpg

Note the master is selected (top left) and the out setting is FL1

The drop down menu looks like:

http://www.bas.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/mixerout.jpg

Open the synth you use (string in this case)

http://www.bas.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/string.jpg

with the mixer and synth editor showing, playing (clicking) the keybaord on the synth editor should show signals in the master section of the mixer, and these should pass through Cubase, to be auditioned.

if that works then hide the FL interface, and go back to the midi track in SE, and select the ouptut for the synth

http://www.bas.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/output.jpg

play some notes (with the track record armed) and that should be audbile in SE.

If that does not work there may be an issue with Midi from one app to another, in which case FL can be run as a VSTi

Press F11 In SE, and select the VSTi version of FL.

http://www.bas.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/vstiselect.jpg

The VSTi panel should appear

http://www.bas.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/vsti.jpg

Set the midi output for the track in SE to FL VSTi

http://www.bas.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/vstoutput.jpg

Pressing on the fruit symbol allows for instriments to be set up within FL.

It appears that in VSTi mode the output channel 1 plays the first loaded synth, and 2 the next - and so on.

Now playing Midi data on the correct channel should drive the correct synth.
