Voters are influenced?

What bollocks.
People vote one way in the poll and then say... "I vote this way cause I like the song but...:" in the thread itself. Look if you have to say but you have NO reason and no business choosing the 3rd option.
Perhaps the poll needs to be expanded to include:
"I vote for any track i like from anyone i feel is part of the in-crowd at K-v-R"
"I discourage others from voting for tracks which i feel violate an as yet undefined 'spirit' of kvr. I have no idea what that spirit is but if i dont like someone for violating it i wont vote for their track."
"I vote for the same people every month because their stuff is consistently of the highest quality and i like what they do. I am not unlike those who only listen to those of high quality on pop radio at the exclusion of less well engineered/produced artists."
NOW THAT would be an HONEST poll.

I have never voted for a song, nor listened to any entries...guess it's mostly crap anywyays...no music I like...Tell me when there's some fine progressive electronica around and I'll have a listen.

Too bad there's no "none of the above" option in the poll. When I vote, I don't care about who's voted for me or not, but rather then voting for the "top hits" of the month, I give higher priority to songs that don't get voted much despite being really nice. (Unless the "top hits" are really unresistable). So I am sort of biased.

I've only voted once, as I've only participated once, and I put lots and lots of effort into trying to pick the very best - if need be, by listening over and over to the tracks I like best.
Still, I may remain biased after all, one way or another, I'd prefer submissions to be anonimous.

aha..then you have very bad taste in music Wopelka...here have a carrot
There are but 3 things certain in life:
1. Progressive electronica is the best musical style..way superior to any other.
2. ZynAddSubFx is the best synth ever.
3. Blond girls have more fun!

I took part two and voted three (IIRC) times so my experience is limited. I only voted for what I liked. I think that Jens could "prove" with statistics what he says and I say "prove" because you never prove really with statistics (I know what I am talking about, that's my job). But there would be a strong confounding effect in this result because one tends to like more the kind of music that he produces while at the same time it is more likely to have "friends" at KvR who make similar kind of music as you than the opposite. Not that there are no exceptions but that is the average trend.
If I go insane, please don't put your wires in my brain

Lady J quoth What bollocks.
Ironic.
People vote one way in the poll and then say... "I vote this way cause I like the song but...:" in the thread itself.
So? The poll is by necessity a set of fixed options, which will almost certainly fail to cover all possible eventualities. People's comments allow them to provide the necessary level of detail which the poll cannot cover.
Look if you have to say but you have NO reason and no business choosing the 3rd option.
Incorrect. If its the closest option, then yes they bloody do.
Perhaps the poll needs to be expanded to include:
<snip>
NOW THAT would be an HONEST poll.
No, it would just be a finer-grained set of options. You obviously dont understand what 'honest' means. You obviously can't understand that 'fitting as close as possible to a restricted set of options and then explaining my choice in detail' isn't dishonest.

An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

Except that experimental stuff rarely does that well in the competitions. So you're talking bollocks.

i haven't taken part in the contests for a while now but when i did i didn't vote based on who voted for me...
that said, the contests are entirely subjective, "quality of the song" can mean many things and your vote will certainly be skewed by your own personal taste.
surely thats the point of voting, you choose what you like.
steve.

And, AFAIK, it´s not possible to edit poll options after being submitted for a minute or so.whyterabbyt wrote:Lady J quoth Perhaps the poll needs to be expanded to include:
