actually...gibson owns the kramer name and is responsible for the sales and distribution (and probably oversees the construction, in a parent company way) of the new kramers on the market. they push them through http://www.musicyo.com, which is a means of direct sales the products of several companies they've bought out over the years. (like tobias and steinberger.) they used to push some oberheim rack effects through that site too.

first they are definately made overseas, second I assume this is why the re-emergence of Kramer this century?...tbh I never worked for a Kramer retailer so this is news too me. But the Kramers of the early 80's like mine were made in the US...though they also had the striker series then which was made overseas  I do not think they were gibson then, but I guess they could of been...interesting link, thanx ugo.

So who's marketing the old Armstrong Lucite Guitars? (it use to be Ampeg, in fact they carried the name Ampeg) I know the last time I talked to my half brother he said he had one...I wasn't much interested in talking to him period...so I never asked (dreadful guitars though, imo no character to the sound)...

well some iof the Kramers are USA..the jersey star is my guitar...;)

edit....the jersey star is not even out yet

btw mine is somewhere between red and pink...same star on the body, gold schallers...but mine had three duncans...it doesn't make that clear...mine also has brazilian rosewood on the fingerboard

but yup that's it...mine needs for me to finish a fret job on it though...they just need leveling...;)

And after all it all depends on how you feel when you play the instrument. The feeling is made inside you - not the instrument :-)

I can't stand Kramer. But without him, Seinfeld wouldn't be the same.

(For that matter I don't watch Seinfeld; can't stand the show either. :-D)

if i remember correctly, gibson bought kramer within the last 5-7 years.

according to the neck plate on a later 80's kramer i've got (the gorky park guitar :hihi: ) it was made in NJ. however, i believe at the time they were getting a lot of their necks from lasido, a canadian company. (who at least used to own godin, seagull, norman, etc. i dont know if they still do.) i dont know if, by the late 80's, kramer were still making their own bodies or if they were just assembling parts in NJ at that point.

i cant remember when kramer (as we knew them) officially went out of business though. im thinking mabey early 90's?

I'm pretty ure you're right because I was in retail in the 90's and until like june of 02...I did see the comeback of Dean, which I actually aquired a fretless that was pretty cool, and a cheesy accoustic that's such a piece of crap it's cool.

Do you remember the monster 8 string bass Ibanez had 'bout 1/4 century ago? An old bass player of mine had one, you damn near needed a hydrolic hoiste on your strap to pick it up.

But alas I wont be buying anymore eletrics, I am thinking about a Seagull, I sold them for years and should got one when I had the chance. As far as electrics go I'd so rather build it. I love my Warmoth hardtail strat. The best neck for my hands...:D

My next guitar will be an ESP body from the early 80's, the finger board seperated from the neck that was on it. I had a friend paint it years ago and it's all wrapped, safe and waiting. The body is set up for a rose and I have the original...but I want one guitar with a scalloped neck, so someday this will happen. The neck I want will run me over 500 (including a new locking nut and scgallers...always schallers) so I'm not in a rush... but one of these days...;)

i never got to try that ibanez 8. i've only seen pictures of it. i did get to play an aluminium necked kramer 8 string a year or so ago though. i really dig multi string basses like 8's and 12's. i've got a Tune 8 string thats awesome.

actually, one of the heaviest basses i ever held was a kramer aluminium necked flying v bass. we had a used one at the old shop i used to work at. someone ground the frets down (instead of properly removing them) to make it a fretless, put a bartolini musicman pickup in it, and did painted the body blue...badly. man, that thing was damn heavy and uncomfortable. i used to play it with the lower point of the v on a stool while i played it standing, like an upright.
I am thinking about a Seagull, I sold them for years and should got one when I had the chance.

i sometimes think that about the norman's we used to sell! though what i really wished i had the money for back then was for a taylor 12 string...and a warrior bass...and an esp...and...

that was the problem with working at a small guitar shop. i got discounts, but i still didnt make enough to actually buy the good stuff. i could have bought a norman, but once we started carring taylor, i got spoiled. someday i'll at least buy myself a taylor 355.

man, i havent built anything in years. i was seriously considering building a new bass, but now that i've got my new (used) modulus Q6, the custom itch has eased up. for many years now i've been saving several boards of beautifull flamed koa that i had picked at a hardwood dealer when i was in hawaii. one of these days, that wood will become a bass or two. (i've still got some cool looking monkey pod left too.)
The neck I want will run me over 500 (including a new locking nut and scgallers...always schallers)
ouch thats a pretty expensive neck. i understand your pain though. there's a good chance my next custom will have a graphite neck. thats going to run me some bucks too.
