What are the advantages/disadvantages of loading Sonik Synth sounds from SampleTank, as opposed to directly in Sonik Synth's interface?

Thanks,

Mark

a red VS blue interface?

Hey Mark

I'm sure a few others will jump in with differences in features and what not but for me, it's the fact that I can mix and match sounds from SS2, ST2XL, the sonik capsules and the strings expansion tank all in the one interface. I have so many options that way. I have a few drum / percussion combis that combine a full kit from SS2, drum separates from the capsules and percussion from ST2XL, all on separate output channels ready for further procession in Sonar. It may be a bit wasteful dedicating a single instance only for drums, but I find it very quick to get desired results.

Cheers

One advantage I can see would be an unlimited amount of combi's.

A disadvantage i guess if you had to pick one would be limiting yourself to 16 sounds per se. Specially if one of your combi's utilized say 6 sound slots..another may take 4 etc. I have SS and ST open to be able to have multiple tracks with multiple sound without having multiple instances of the same application running and being able to mix and match sounds on the fly.

Running under ST2 GUI allows you to do more fancy stuff with the search database (you can add your own keywords for instance), you can load up multifx patches, lock fx, set up program change banks plus some of the things mentioned above. It's worth having for a lot of reasons.

So it sounds to me like you guys are saying that if you have both ST and SS, it's well worth using SampleTank as the interface to both sounds. Which sort of surprises me, because I thought I had heard somewhere that if you use SS sounds in their own interface, you have access to more parameters or something like that. But that's not true, eh?

Thanks,
Mark

No, it's not true. But, actually, having access to less also makes it cleaner and that too can be a benefit. Clarity and simplicity. There are other benefits of running the two different interfaces (which you can also do- it is not an either/or). You can point one to one place on your HD and the other to another place. Maybe some other benefits in particular instances (npi). Well, here's one. The SS2 interface will ONLY load SS2 sounds and that's what will show up in it's browser. If you wanted to collaborate with someone else who has SS2 you can just open the SS2 interface and know that any sound you use will be compatible with their system. Otherwise, not everyone might have ALL of the various ST2 sounds you have under your unlimited sound opening ST2 GUI. Just an example. Bottom line is that it is good to have both. More options. But, in the end the main value of Sonik Synth 2 is the 8.5 gigs of sound content.

I do both and work depending on how I feel. I made an SS2 sub folder under my ST2 folder and pointed SS2 directly to D:\ST2\SS2 and ST2 to D:\ST2. That way when I load ST2 I can access those SS2 sounds by opening that folder.
