As the topic says. The Sonar 4.03 update is available for download from Cakewalk's site now.

Good evening xylyx.

Even with my 2mb connection my download is crawling. Cakewalks server/servers are being hit probably 300 times per second right now. :hihi: At least my download has started. :D

The full story...

The SONAR 4.0.3 Update Patch focuses on workflow enhancements and dramatically smoother audio playback while making various real-time gestures.

Workflow enhancements:

1.Added a fast and easy menu command to specify which SMPTE time should correspond to the current Now Time.

2.Auto Punch muting: SONAR will mute all existing clips in the Auto Punch time range of armed track(s) when recording audio or MIDI in Auto Punch & Sound-on-Sound (Blend) mode.

3.Dramatically smoother audio playback while making the following real-time gestures:
Copying, moving, nudging, splitting and slip-editing clips

Moving events in the Piano Roll View
Inserting/Deleting effects, including delay-compensated effects
Enabling/Disabling looping
Moving the Now Time (in projects without video)
Inserting/Deleting new tracks or buses that route to existing audio ports
Enabling/Disabling a send on a track or bus that routes to an existing audio port
Opening the GUI of an inserted VST plug-in

Notable Bug Fixes:

1.SONAR is now much less susceptible to dropping out under heavy CPU loads.

2.Interactions with graphics drivers sometimes caused SONAR to emit clicks in the audio.
Sometimes it was not possible to monitor existing audio while recording if the metronome was using a count-in

3.Muted clip regions would sometimes not remain muted when continuously looping a section

4.If an ASIO audio driver requests a reset during playback or recording, SONAR will now delay the reset until the transport has stopped.

5.Audio and MIDI track strips now restore to the last known height instead of the default height after saving and opening a project file.

6.Under certain circumstances, SONAR would stop responding to incoming MTC messages.

7.CAL scripts would always use a resolution of 960 PPQ instead of the actual display/project PPQ.

8.A MIDI track’s Vel+ slider in the Track view did not update when setting Vel+ from the Track-Property menu command.

9.While recording Volume automation, the audible volume could be inconsistent with the resulting envelope in certain circumstances.

10.Exporting to ASCII Tab didn’t save complete text file.

11.It was sometimes possible to record onto archived tracks.

12.A crash could occur when opening a Type 1 DV file on a dual processor or Hyper-Threading PC.

13.Mixdown could be aborted and a memory error could occur when exporting tracks (“Tracks” selected as the Source Category in the Export Audio dialog) from a large project.

14.MIDI tracks would keep playing for a brief moment after playback was stopped if ‘Play Effects Tails’ was enabled.

15.SONAR would fail to load certain OMF files that contained large unnecessary “filler” data that was stored after valid track data.

Yes, the long awaited 4.0.3 update is finally here and what an update it is. :D I think Cake learned a lot, from the coding of Project 5 2.0, cause from what I see and hear so far, it has been vastly improved, in regards to gapless realtime performance. I have to admire Cakewalk for getting this important update out for SONAR 4 users, instead of holding it out, as an incentive to buy into SONAR 5. Ron Kuper (Cakewalk CTO) stated recently that they (Cakewalk) owed to to the existing SONAR 4 users to get this implemented, as a free update, and did not expect it's users to have to pay for 5.0, in order to get the gapless performance. Cake has already earned my money when it comes to updating to SONAR 5. Well, as long as they continue the policy of not using the stupid dongle/PACE crap, of course.

Actually, I downloaded a demo yesterday, which was 4.0.2 I believe, and I noticed that it was smoother than anything else now. I could even insert plugins without disrupting the audio stream. Kind of amazing considering that it's had such problems with this through 4 versions and several years, I thought they'd never fix it. Now it's the best I've seen as well as their other product, Project 5 version 2 which is also amazingly smooth. Good work from Sonar.

The patch being refered to is 4.03 and the demo is still 4.02.

I know, I'm pointing out that "even" version 4.02 was a whole lot smoother than what was before it.

You'll have to get a new email as well, idiot. I passed that one on to Cakewalk and the authorities. Get a job you hopeless thief.
