Hi All,
Trying to import some samples into ST. I have @ 65 samples of Marimba from C1 thru D#5 chromatically. Originally it was 1 track, so I had to split and edge edit them all!! phew. :hihi:
I tried importing as a folder, but St cannnot map them in the correct scale due to not having the note data imbedded in the audio files (AIFF). Do I need a specialized software to map them out correctly? The manual says Recycle will do this - anything else alittle more inexpensive for MAC? It would make mapping alot less time consuming .

I did import the C3 range after renaming all the files. I'm not yet up to par with the stretch algo yet, so the higher and lower ranges do sound funky. Should I use the stretch function from the C3 range or should I import them as the full range? I assume it would "sound" better with full range, no? Trying to avoid renaming @ 59 files :o , plus I would like to learn the stretch function.

If you can I suggest trying to import all the files. You don't need to have the root note embedded in the audio file - just make sure it's in the file name.

Renaming 59 files sure sounds like a chore, but in reality it'll only take about 10-15 minutes. I know - I've been through the exact same process a few times. Allocate maybe 5 minutes for tweaking (sometimes there's a surprise in the file name that can get confused for the proper note name).

You sampled a marimba? Great! I love marimbas.

Just rename them all (less work than the editing you did ;) ). You could use any wave editor to put the info into the file but it takes about the same time as renaming so...

As for Stretch, it is not likely to sound good on a marimba (except for weird fx). It's not good for too many transient sounds. Also, the strong harmonics of the marimba may confuse the detection of the fundamental (perhaps, maybe not though). Either way, you will get better results using all of your samples (or even pick the best sounding ones in fairly short intervals depending on the size you want it to be when you're done).

Good luck! Let us all hear it when you're done. Play a little riff or something.

Thanks for the reply Kim & Squids!!

Actually I have the Sampleheads- Marimba/vibes by , (hmm forgot his name- plays with Spyro Gyra) audio cd.

So the import is mapped to the actual name of the file. OK , I'll give the whole pack a try.

The C3 range imported fine, except that triggering with a controller, it seems that each note gets chopped at the end of the sample. I have to keep the key pressed down for the full sample length. What do I need to tweek to get the samples to fully sustain the full note without getting chopped?

Envelope 1 -> release. Set the knob to maximum.

Thank you Kim!!, Yes release does the trick!!

oh BTW its Dave Samuels..couldn't get any better samples than that.

I'll see if I can put up a clipping soon. Could share the patch, but don't know if that would be legal:roll:

Post some of the filenames (of the offending files) here, I'll see if there's anything that can be fixed in the filename to make them work.

By the way, sorry about the late reply. I've been unwell, and haven't been able to use my comptuer for the last few days. :(

I am wondering if any of these sample import difficulties have been fixed/improved in the 2.1 update?

It seems ashame not to be able to use one's sample collection easily with a great new 2.1 engine. :)

genobeeno, I had to name them..
1-C3.aif
2-C#3.aif etc. I could not get ST to read the actual note name in order, since it was out of order. So it may be a genereic numerical read. I have not continued with the rest of the ranges, so Ican't say for sure whats going on with the imports.
Been cought up with .. ya know making music.

I've almost finished work on an osx/win program called ST-Slicer that automatically chops your audio file (bit like Recycle but simpler) then names and exports the chunks - ready for import into Sampletank - it supports up to 8 velocity layers, 16bit aif and wav files. It saves me alot of time - referring to the marimba example, imagine using 8 velocity layers for 65 samples - thats 520 files to chop out and name!

Workflow: record your samples into one file in the note order/velocity order with a small amount of silence between each sample (something you do anyway). Open in ST-Slicer, type in the note sequence and the velocity layer wanted, adjust threshold and gate to slice the audio then export - thats it!

It'll be ready for release in a week or two, price is nt finalised, around $30.00 probably - how does that sound?

Now that sounds awsome etherboy!!
