Dunno, those two songs quite similar, but I was initially put in mind of 'Xtraordinary World' by Duran Duran. There's not a lot melodically to it, and it seems to be an oft used motif, so I'd guess you could get away with it... Not a lawyer though
Music with dinner is an insult both to the cook and the violinist.

Thanks for listening griels but I have to disagree with your 'oft used motif' - if played on the piano would these two melodies be heard as almost identical - and, in reply to the above mentioned 'oft used motif' statement, is there another song melody with such a close relationship - not just sounds 'like' - rhymes 'like' - but; sounds 'the same' - rhymes 'the same' ...
Don't listen to the music .... listen to the tune
Regards

I was listening to the melody! The music is quite different otherwise... I haven't transcribed the melodies, so can't comment on whether they are exactly the same, but they do sound very very similar. Just my thruppenceTechNoiZ wrote:Thanks for listening griels but I have to disagree with your 'oft used motif' - if played on the piano would these two melodies be heard as almost identical - and, in reply to the above mentioned 'oft used motif' statement, is there another song melody with such a close relationship - not just sounds 'like' - rhymes 'like' - but; sounds 'the same' - rhymes 'the same' ...

Don't know why this is such a big deal to you. Half the crap on the radio sounds just like the other half! I hear stuff that sounds like melodies copied from other songs ALL THE F U C K I N G TIME! Pop music is CRAP... who really gives a f u c k?
Plus that garbage on those examples barely even constitutes a melody as far as I'm concerned.

How about Sublime's "What I got" and the Beatles' "Lady Madonna"? I mean pop music is filled with countless examples of this sort of plagarism. So what? It's not like it's art or anything. It's just disposable corporate crap.

OK ...... the two tunes I posted only use three notes: E, F#, and G ..... the order is the same in both examples ....
[ F#, E F#, E, F#, E, F#, G, F#, E, F#, E, F#, E, F#, E, F#, G, E ] .... twice
The rhythm depends on the lyric ... and the lyrics are interchangeable .....
Are these toons similar, very very similar, or identical?
Duran Duran is a red herring ...... it uses more than those 3 notes hence cannot be identical ....
JohnVulich > it is a big deal to me because if they are identical it could (I say c o u l d ....) end up in a lawsuit could it not .... were the un-original one to make any money ...

Why, did you write one of them? Or do you intend or ripping someone else off?TechNoiZ wrote:JohnVulich > it is a big deal to me because if they are identical it could (I say c o u l d ....) end up in a lawsuit could it not .... were the un-original one to make any money ...
Also who is the band that you say is "one of the biggest rock'n'roll bands in the world"? Never heard any of that crap before.

Yeah I have heard of them but I've never heard that song before. Not sure that I would call them "rock'n'roll" though, I think "pop crap" is a more suitable label. Not sure that I would call them one of the biggest either. I was under the impression that they were a bit of a "flash in the pan" that self destructed because of huge ego and drug problems?TechNoiZ wrote:ooooops!

so ... no experts in song/melody copyright law / litigation .... yet .....
So would you take the chance .... if you knew that your version would be more widely heard than the original and undoubtably make more money ... [considering it would sound vastly superior in production values and, of course, more up to date?]
