I wonder how much of this sort of functionality is covered/superceded by Dimension now?shamann wrote:http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/Mu ... load.shtml
You can still get the download for the demo at hitsquad, try the UK server.
It has a lot of pop-up windows, so it's hard to capture it in a screenshot.

No! I'm putting all arguments on the balance!lepwisk wrote:Jo, I get the sense you are leaning more towards synth/plug-in development
Let me tell you that, meanwhile, development is already going on. Building the basic parts that are common to hosts/plugs/... (not ignoring the cooperation hints)
Ideally the host = plug, plug = host.
Like EXT and FLS.

(a set of VST effects plugins that 'talk' to each other)

I've not seen Dimension but it took sfz with sfz format to get me away from MuZynth as a pure sampler. So I imagine Dimension is pretty stiff competition. Only available with P5v2, though, and not in the demos, so pretty nearly as embedded in P5v2 as MuZynth was in Muzys. (Although Dimension is a DXi.)aMUSEd wrote:I wonder how much of this sort of functionality is covered/superceded by Dimension now?

Nope, it's not embedded into P5 like Muzynth was in Muzys - it's just a plugin. - That being said it's a fantastic plugin though - it's some kind of SFZ+ on stereoids!pljones wrote:I've not seen Dimension but it took sfz with sfz format to get me away from MuZynth as a pure sampler. Of course, I should have added that after killing the project it then frees up the developer to come up with even better stuff!muzycian wrote:jokerlepwisk wrote:Or, it could force someone into a development partnership that might also end up killing the project.(euh i mean

Very cool. I'm not sure if there is anything yet like this for OSX. If there is, could someone please clue me in?

No useful suggestions at all. Still using Muzys- music comes much easier in it than in the other hosts I have. Good luck with whatever you decide to do- sure I'll be interested in it...

Response
1) So does it make sense to develop another sequencer-host?
I don think a single person or small development team can keep up with the large sequencer-host development companies. I have reviewed a lot of the previous postings by Muzys users. It is amazing how demanding software users can be. We always want more and more features. I am using Muzys 3.14 and I am very happy. Muzys is most intuitive software sequencer have every used.
2) If so, what should it look like, how should it be structured?
I am a big fan of Quasimidi gear. I have owned the QM-309, Sirius and Polymorph. I would like to see a sequencer-host that can emulate the Quasimidi Sirius\Raven hardware sequencer features. I would even be willing right up the requirements and specifications document for the application. This would definitely be a niche market type of sequencer. Otherwise I don’t see any reason to switch to a new sequencer. This is the way I look at it. Some people are still sequencing on an Ensoniq ASR-10 and Akai MPC 2000.
The Muzys sequencer inspires creativity and that is why I will continue using it.
3) Maybe it's better to only develop synth and effect plugins?
I believe this would be the most cost effective and practical option.

I've been using the Computer Muzys, the stripped down, version of muzys since about oct/nov last year and love it. I don't have the money to buy a host at the moment (and even when I get some I think there's a market for affordable hosts XT is priced well) but I've been very impressed with this host's simplicity of use and creative flow. I've found it to be very intuitive to use and have had a great time making project after project. It's clear you're a talented person Jo so whatever you do in future, good luck.
This might be off topic but...
I do have a question about it though. Is it possible to send MIDI (both from inside CMUzys, and from an external source) to VST effects? I can't seem to get this to happen (though it may be me). Also, The vst instruments options button allows the assigning of MIDI controllers to parameters as well as to controllers with an excellent list of the vsti's parameters on display but this isn't there for the FX, that would be a nice feature.
I've looked at Live 4 too and this is excellent, could do with a better MIDI sequencer though, the current one just doesn't feel right to me, but the other things it offers make it a lot of fun and a formidable host.

1) Computer Muzys cannot send MIDI to Vst Effects.
2) To assign a MIDI controller to a vst effect parameter: open the vst effect editor, tweak the parameter you want, then click the button "VST FX Options" below the editor and choose "Assign MIDI Controller to X" where X will be the name of that last parameter you tweaked. Then give your preferred MIDI controller a twist so CMuzys knows which one you want.
Thanks for your encouragements!
Always be welcome on http://www.mutools.com for the latest news. Next news to be expected around October.

i don't think i understand this at all. Muzys was the best out there, bar none. Unfortunately, i only had the money to buy a new host ( which i was looking for ) after it was already off the market. I still bust out C-muzys once in a while, but it is too limited for what i want.
So here's where i am confused: somebody made a deal with you, whereby it could not be sold due to a 'non competition clause??? but then that project didn't come through, right? So WHY can't Muzys some back? That makes no sense to me. If the other project didn't happen, then surely Muzys is free from those constraints, right? or did the code get bought and paid for so it's not yours anymore?
