HI,CAN ANYONE TELL ME MORE ABOUT Sampletank® Time REsynthesis TeCHnology. IT IS THE BEST engine IN ALL HARDSAMPLER AND SOFTSAMPLER?
PLEASE TELL ME MORE detailed thx~

Post

One aspect that makes it great is the sound for certain samples. Squids had posted a violin doing glissando (gliding with the finder up the string) which sounded amazingly real.
A 2nd aspect is that it is a unique technology that also can be used as an effect.

I can tell you more about Stretch.

First of all, I want to be clear about one thing: There is no best.

In science:
Stretch is an alternate playback engine. In regular resampling (which is also available in SampleTank2) samples are played back faster or slower in order to change the pitch of the sample. A side effect of this is that samples that have a natural decay will decay faster when played up high, and decay slower when played down low.

Another side effect of regular resampling is that the formants are shifted as well as the pitch. Formants refer to the character of the sound. If you've ever heard of the "Mickey Mouse effect" or "Chipmunks effect", then you'll know what I'm talking about. Pitching a sample an octave up or down usually results in a sound that is very unlike the original sound.

Stretch is a different approach to this. Rather than resampling the original sound, Stretch involves a more sophisticated initial analysis phase, allowing the sound to be resynthesised in realtime. This allows characteristics of the sound (such as percieved pitch, speed, and formants) to be manipulated independantly.

For example, you can play a sample as high or as low as you like, and the speed will remain the same even though the pitch is changing. Conversly, you can change the speed which retaining the same pitch.

The same can be applied to formants. Stretch allows the sample to be played back as different pitches and speed which still retaining the original character. It's also possible to change the character of the sound without needing to change the pitch or speed.

In music:
Stretch is a tool. It won't be the best choice for everything, quite simply because the functionality it provides is not appropriate in all cases. It's specially designed to work best with clean monophonic samples such as strings and voices. On the right material, Stretch can work wonders, allowing a much greater range of expression than a regular sampler using resampling can offer. It doesn't work on everything though - on some material (such as drums or single-cycle synths samples), the results are not always what you might expect. That's cool sometimes though - being able to create new unheard-of sounds by using tools in ways they weren't designed to be used.

What kind of music do you make? Stretch is very flexible and can be equally useful whether you're composing orchestral film scores, experimental drum'n'bass, pop remixes, rock demos, etc.

I think all the non-vocal instruments came from SampleTank2 and Sonic Synth (the original). Probably T-RackS on the master. It's been just over six months, so it's hard to remember exactly what I used. I think that's Cubase's Reverb B (the "coloured" one  ) on the vocal for that really long ghostly verb. The vocal recording chain was really simple:

1) My voice
2) Shure SM57
3) Behringer MX602A
4) RME Digi 96/8 PAD
5) Cubase SX2

Glad you enjoyed it. :) The lyrics were written by my sister. I composed the music for her birthday. :)

Yeah, I think that must have been the first really small mixer that didn't absolutely suck (Phonic, I'm looking at you!). I need to upgrade too, but for me it's because I need more inputs and a more flexible speakers/headphones output routing system.
