8track and tape-delays

Today I bought a second tape-delay but knowingly it had a faulty 8track tape inside so I am now on the lookout to see it replaced.

Does anyone know if there are still some available and where should I look for it. Or should a normal cassette tape be usuable to cut into a length and looped with a kit? (then I better search for a cutting kit)

heh; and meanwhile I made an offer for two 8track players with added tapes in Belgium; if it's still for sale though.
I can allready see myself using them in the setup

I'm intrigued! A tape delay that uses an 8track cartridge? What kind is it?

I don't think a Phillips cassette will work due to the smaller tape size. Most tape delays I've seen use 1/4" tape.

If you want the best quality however you are better of buying new 1/4" reel to reel tape instead.

Even though those tapes on eBay are new they were sitting on a shelf for 20-40 years and I am sure the magenetic tape is quite degraded if not completely unusable.

I know that Echoplex's use some sorta cartridge but I dont think it was 8 track, I could be wrong tho..

Sorry to not get back sooner, but just got home from work.

Actually a lot of the tapedelays I see (and I'd say there's about 2 or more a week being on offer)

I have a guyatone delay now and an Echo chamber concert (both being japanese); here's a (lousy) pic I just took off them including one 8track tape



Personally I have but one desire now left for a tape delay and that's the watkins

I used to own a tape delay back in the 70's.
I remember being very happy getting rid of it once Boss came out with the Digital Delay stomp boxes.
No more noise, no more cleaning heads all the time.
Heck the mechanical noise was pretty bad from the motor itself.
I wouldn't mind having it now though.....

yeah, that full tone is $900 bucks...i'm looking for a couple reel to reel decks to buid my own, total pita i know...i really need to check out a good tape echo model...what's the most accuate?

e-phonic's retro-delay is quite exciting and bionic delay allows you to add tape-flutter too.
