I liked the album (but I've liked everything they've ever done). I'm actually thinking of getting the album 'The Otherness' (that's what it's called in the U.S.) which is a bunch of alternate mixes of songs from the Isness. Apparently, they recorded and rerecorded (and rerecorded, etc.) the songs from the album over the time they spent not releasing music (early 2000s). The only thing they did during that time I think was the "A Monstrous Psychadelic Bubble..." radio show (which I've actually got the first half of).

If you liked The Isness, definitely check out The Mello Hippo Disco Show too (released as Amorphous Androgynous).

Haven't heard The Otherness, gotta find that one.

FSOL's Cascade ( the single), to my ears, one of the most beautiful electronic tracks.

the isness was a too psychedelic for me. (or at least not the style psychedelia that i can dig.) well done, just not my bag.

other than that cd, the only other fsol i own are lifeforms and dead cities, both of which i really dig. (especially dead cities  ) i've got to pick up some other earlier fsol one day.

Er.. the Isness was released as Amorphous Androgynous too. I have a double CD edition which includes Isness & Otherness - pretty funky packaging.

As for the album, love it, love it, love it. Always listening to it, on the train espescially. Just really melts well with the scenery.

Oh well, goes to show how accurate information you get from a weed smoking friend's mp3 collection :D As far as I can remember was tagged as if it was released as FSOL... and my memories of visiting that particular friend are often silver hazed :P

With my current budget, I dont' go to record stores often - as it means parting with 100+ euros every time :D I just can't resist it when I go to a store a see a stack of albums and singles from an act I like...

(the last FSOL things I bought a couple of years ago were pretty much everything released so far, including at least two Papua - New Guinea remix albums and some of the albums in 2cd editions, including at least one more Papua New Guinea remix disc :P)

i was always curious about that album. it was always to expensive for me to buy it on a whim. i like dead cities - it was one of those great albums from the 90's. today, it does sound a little cheeze but i still enjoy listening to it now and then. but back when it came out, it was awesome.

I think that my favorite albums done by FSOL are Dead Cities and ISDN. There's just something about ISDN that makes me want to listen to it...

For me to complete my FSOL collection (hehe) I need the singles My Kingdom, We Have Explosive, Cascade and Lifeforms (and the Otherness). I've thought about getting the Amorphous Androgynous album (something like Liquid Insects?) but I've never heard it.

Post

I was very disappointed by this album when it came out. It has nothing to do with FSOL's style I liked a lot. Dead Cities, ISDN and Lifeforms are great albums imho. Isness is something like, 'hey, we're going to play Beatles and try to sound modern'.

Post

Isness is a brilliant album - I still play it very regularly.
It's a classic mock-up of the psychedelic era, done extremely well, and trippy as. 8)
Not heard of the otherness though - now I'm gonna have to go check it out without a doubt.

To compare Amorphous Androgenous with FSOL though is like comparing Dukes Of Stratosfear with XTC imo. Same bands, but totally different creatures.

Post

yes, if they are considered different projects. BUT The Isness was released finally under the name 'Future Sound of London', don't forget that...

anyway, Amorphous Androgynous are going to release a new album soon, it seems, called 'Alice in Ultraland'.

Post

My copy has the name Amorphous Androgynous on the cover. No mention of FSOL.

Post

yes, it seems The isness was released under both names. Click this amazon link and watch the cover of the album.
