I simply didn't like how it sounded.

Seconded.

I can't see what on earth they have to gain by keeping PACE :?

Post

At the group buy price it looked tempting, but I do not want any pace protected products on my system at all - no matter which version of pace it is.
Simple as.

VST is probably an afterthought for Princeton. I expect the have sold a truckload of TDM,RTAS and AU versions to the guys who disdain anything that doesn't have a high pricetag. They probably don't do their own software installations anyway. To keep these guys placated, they probably wouldn't remove Pace from the VST plugins used by the great unwashed.

Although they cared enough to make the effort of putting together a g/b.

I'm holding off on judgement about Amplitube 2 and CSR (which is a corporate euphamism for Customer Service Representative BTW, so I hate the name), until I hear them. But you if you have some first hand info, I'm curious.
No, I'm not on any beta team, I have am a retired recording engineer from the 'golden era' where most of this highly regarded, now 'vintage' studio gear was 'new' at the time! but I have a dear friend who heard it at musikmesse. This same friend sampled a terrific hall in Germany a few years ago for his Altiverb and let me have copies of the impulses to import into Waves IR-1. He knows reverb and was VERY impressed. He also owns an actual Lexicon 480L and knows what he's talking about! I heard it myself on the Sonic Reality Demo video for Philharmonik. I also have heard it on the other demos for same on the SR website. The halls are beautiful with rich animation. No plugin currently can do this this well.

Some people just want huge bright "reverb of the gods" type of stuff. I like natural ambience with lots of animation with an occasional application of the AWESOME REVERB type of stuff. I have spent a lot of time in REAL halls, sampling instruments and recording orchestras.

As for a Lex 200...umm..excuse me, but that is most definitely NOT in the same league as a 480L! :D You get what you pay for and Lexicon would not be making mega-reverb units very long if they sold that kind super reverb hardware for so little money! You've got like ONE lexichip in the 200 versus EIGHT in the 480L.

As I said before, I am quite aquainted with the sound of the 480 having rented one frequently several years back. I can listen to my recordings from those times and hear how much better it sounded than any plugin currently shipping.

I also used to own an LXP-1, an LXP-550 and an MX-100.

I also owned a Roland SRV-330 and NONE of those lower priced reverbs came close.

The only hardware which approached the 480L for under $3000 was the PCM-91.

CSR is purported to provide reverb usually associated with AMS and TC-5000 reverbs, as well as the 480.

CSR is something the market badly needs!

You will like it.
