What ominous brass instrument is it that appears in the soundtrack of the film "The 13th Warrior" at 1:07:28 and in the following passages near that mark?
It's fairly deep, smooth, and has portamento
I'm not in a position to record it at the moment to make identification easier, but thought maybe one of you also might own the film and know what it was

No idea. And I can't really make an educated guess, so I'll just throw out a random answer.
French horns. It must be french horns. French horns are the new cool.

I'm getting pretty close to it with a tuba in Garritan Personal Orchestra. Might be a trombone, though, but it would really have to be a ballsy trombone! At any rate, this tuba is kicking me in the gut just right.SynDrone wrote:If I'm not mistaken I believe those are bass trombones. Check out some of the ProjectSam Trombone demos, they sound very much like what you're describing.
check this out (especially if you have a subwoofer)

I'm pretty sure I heard some Conan The Barbarian style brass coming out of SAM Trombones.
